Alan Wake PC Price Release Date

If you were an Xbox 360 owner between 2005 and 2010 who thought that Alan Wake was taking its good sweet time in development, imagine how the PC crowd feels! The episodic, Hitchockian action thriller was initially promised as an Xbox 360 / PC exclusive from Remedy Entertainment, but the later end of that deal was axed shortly before its final release. PC gamers were left in the darkness, wishing they had stocked up on more lithium batteries.

Now, however, almost two years after releasing to stellar reviews (like ours), Alan Wake is finally coming to the PC. The news was confirmed late last year (along with a few details to bristle over) that Remedy had purchased platforming rights to the game and would be publishing it for release exclusively over digital distribution services. And finally, as a finishing touch, the company has revealed its specific release date and pricing packages for our adventure back to Bright Falls.

Starting with Steam on February 16, Alan Wake will be available in its most basic form at $29.99, which includes the original game and its accompanying DLC offerings (The Writer and The Signal). Gamers can also shell out $34.99 to purchase the Limited Collector's Edition, though it's unknown if that will include everything from the $80 LCE released with the console game.

In case you missed all the specs on what Remedy is furnishing for Alan Wake's PC outing, here's the rundown they announced with their release schedule:

  • Experience Alan Wake’sPacific Northwest in higher resolutions and higher fidelity than ever before.
  • Refined and fully configurable mouse and keyboard support (or if you prefer to play with the Microsoft gamepad connected to your PC, you can do that too!)
  • A wide selection of customizable graphics settings and support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios.
  • Multithreaded engine that takes advantage of quad core CPUs.
  • Additional options our fans have sought after, such as field of view adjustment as well as “hide HUD”.
  • Works with AMD Eyefinity 3D 3-screen mode.
  • Works with NVIDIA NVISION2 Stereoscopic 3D.

Despite the near perpetual wait, the February release window is likely no coincidence for Remedy. Alan Wake's American Nightmare releases just one week later on February 22 for download on the Xbox Live Arcade and traps Alan in one of his own "Night Springs" episodes on the trail of the ravenous Mr. Scratch. No doubt a preceding PC release will "wake" some new gamers to the top notch psychological horror series - perhaps it will even have them clamoring for a multiplatform Alan Wake 2.

Alan Wake releases for the PC on February 16, 2012 via Steam. Additional download services will be incorporated later.
