The director of Remedy Entertainment's upcoming survival horror sequel says that Alan Wake 2 will be the studio's "biggest" game to date. At the 2021 Game Awards show, fans were treated to a number of surprising announcements from beloved studios. Alan Wake 2's announcement caught many gamers off-guard, being a sequel to the overlooked cult classic action-adventure. After a lengthy departure, gamers will be returning to the world of Bright Falls in a survival horror setting.

With Alan Wake 2 now adopting a survival horror atmosphere, it is ditching some of the elements from the first game that gave Bright Falls its Twin Peaks-inspired tone. In an interview with GamesRadar, game director Kyle Rowley commented that this game will be the studio's take on the survival horror genre. He states that the "gameplay, narrative, atmosphere, music" were something important that the studio needed to nail down. He also elaborated how it's also one of the biggest games that the studio has produced.
