There was a major gamer among the 2021 NFL draft class, and he paid homage to the legendary PS2. Yesterday, when cornerback Patrick Surtain II was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round after a stellar career at Alabama, one detail caught gamers' eyes more than his impressive college stats, and that was his PS2 themed necklace.

After Twitter user TylerRickyTynes, a staff writer at GQ magazine, spoke to the first-round draft picks backstage and discussed their outfits, he took to Twitter to share a picture of Surtain's absolutely ludicrous PS2 necklace. The necklace, created by itcoststofrost on Twitter, appears to be completely bedazzled in diamonds.  The pendant—a slightly smaller replica of a PS2 controller—is enough to garner a second glance, but even the chain itself is accented with PlayStation's famous buttons. While the cost of the piece was not shared, it's likely more expensive than buying every PS2 classic from the PlayStation store.

Surtain's tribute to the system did not end with his impressive necklace but was accented by the PS2 logo on his loafers. It goes without saying that Surtain, born in the same year as the PS2 was released, is a massive fan of the system. Understandably, Twitter erupted in a wave of comments both admiring and critiquing the piece.

As many have pointed out, the controller appears to be an odd mash-up of both the PS3 and PS2 controllers. The most obvious question mark is the USB plugin feeding into the top of the controller, a feature that came out with the PS3. However, it does have the correct, square-shaped analog button on the face, whereas the PS3 had a circular button with the PlayStation logo. The scrutiny is to be expected as the PS2 controller is among the most iconic ever made, so much so that PS2-inspired controllers have been released for the PS5.

Regardless of the piece's accuracy, it still stands as an amazing tribute to one of the all-time greatest gaming consoles. Whether Patrick Surtain II chose the console because it is his all-time favorite or because PS2 also happens to be his initials is unclear, but either way, it's exciting to see a top-tier athlete representing a retro console. For those nitpicking at the necklace and questioning whether he is part of the gaming community or not, keep in mind that, unlike the Twitter commenters, he'll be featured in the next Madden game.
