While details have been scant on upcoming first-person horror title, Agony, it has garnered some interest in the gaming community. We even named it one of the 10 most anticipated horror games coming this year. Those who have been holding their breath in anticipation for its release can breathe a sigh of relief, as it has been announced the game will launch on May 29th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

The announcement for the release date of Agony was made in a new trailer that was shown today. In it, a disfigured female character is shown apparently speaking to the protagonist. During the dialogue, glimpses of some of the game's gruesome locales and creatures are shown. There also seems to be in-game footage shown from the player's perspective, though it is not known if it is from gameplay or cutscenes.

The game will literally put gamers through Hell, as that is where the game takes place. Prior gameplay footage shown makes it seem that the game will emphasize stealth to avoid danger, at least early on. Players will eventually gain new powers to help them along the way, including the ability to possess certain demons and even other humans.

The game was initially revealed a few years ago when it was successfully funded through Kickstarter back in 2016. The game was rumored to be released this March, though that didn't happen. Not many details have been released regarding the title so far, outside of a few short trailers and screenshots.

Madmind Studios is the developer behind the game. The team is comprised of several industry veterans that have worked on several major titles, including Tom Clancy's The Division and Wither 3: Wild Hunt. The studio has been very communicative with its backers regarding the title, as well.

While there is no surprise that a title like this would be getting an M-Rating, the game had to be censored to avoid the dreaded Adults Only (AO) rating, especially to get a console release. This left some backers curious as to how the censoring would affect the game. The studio has since assured fans that the core experience was not compromised by it. The developer also revealed that an optional patch would be coming for the PC version, that would feature the uncensored content.

Agony will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 29, 2018.
