Even though the MCU movies are often set in the USA, a lot of British actors play important parts in them. One of the first ones was Hayley Atwell who took on the role of agent Peggy Carter and quickly became a fan favorite. So much so that she earned her own spin-off series Agent Carter which ran for two seasons and focused on Peggy's adventure after the war and Steve Rogers' disappearance.

Hayley Atwell's performance was applauded in the MCU, and it's not surprising, considering her vast acting experience. The talented actress has many other well-rated movies and TV shows under her belt that no fan of Peggy Carter should miss out on watching.

5 Christopher Robin (2018)

Christopher Robin 2018 Hayley Atwell

Other than her MCU movies, Hayley Atwell's best-rated non-superhero movie is the 2018 family biographical fantasy piece, Christopher Robin. It focuses on the now-adult Christopher Robin who works hard and has very little time for his wife (Atwell) and their daughter. Ewan McGregor is ultimately sympathetic as Christopher Robin and the same goes for his wife Evelyn, played by Atwell.

The movie comes across as a feel-good piece in the end because it points out that imagination and finding time for a person's loved ones are important. Thanks to the appearance of cute animals Christopher Robin is also suitable both for children and for adults - each viewer will find something in the movie, regardless of their age.

4 Any Human Heart

Any Human Heart 2010 Hayley Atwell

Whether she appears in a comedy, a historical piece, or a drama, Hayley Atwell can be counted on to always give a strong performance. That's also the case in this 2010 TV drama. Even though Any Human Heart centers on the writer Logan and his life across decades, Atwell who played Freya Deverell in all four episodes easily draws attention to herself in every scene she appears in.

Any Human Heart is ideal for those who would like to see more of Atwell's TV work but don't have much time since it runs for only four hours in total. And just like in the best British show, the cast is stellar, starring Jim Broadbent, Matthew Macfadyen, Gillian Anderson, and Sam Claflin. With only two thousand ratings on IMDb, Any Human Heart is easily one of the best-rated, yet hidden jewels of Atwell's early filmography.

3 Agent Carter

Agent Carter

Even though Peggy Carter wasn't the main heroine of the first Captain America movie, she easily stole every scene she appeared in for herself. So much so that many fans fell for her just like Steve Rogers did. So when the time came to move the MCU characters onto TV series, Peggy Carter was the first solo character who got her own show. Sadly, it was canceled after just two seasons, but that still was enough time to see some of Peggy's post-war investigations and her effort to deal with losing Steve Rogers.

The series offered a balanced mix of comedy and drama, with the first genre being represented primarily by the comedy dynamic between Peggy and her new sidekick slash future best friend Edwin Jarvis, aka Howard Stark's butler, played by James D'Arcy. These two created one of the best MCU duos, so anybody who wants to see more of them should stream Agent Carter on Disney Plus.

2 The Pillars Of The Earth

The Pillars of the Earth Hayley Atwell

Just like multiple British actors, Hayley Atwell is no stranger to acting in TV series as well as movies. The 2010 historical series based on Ken Follett's book gave Atwell one of her first prominent TV roles. She plays the part of Aliena in all eight episodes. The story is set in England in 1123 and centers on a group of heroes who all have something to do with the building of the huge cathedral in Kingsbridge.

The series creates a strong historical atmosphere and stars multiple known names, such as Eddie Redmayne, Ian McShane, or Donald Sutherland as Atwell's onscreen father, Earl Bartholomew. Even though the book Aliena is younger than Atwell was by the time she played the role, it doesn't have any impact on her performance and Atwell once again proves that she's just at home in the historical genre as in any other.

1 Black Mirror

Black Mirror Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson

Currently streaming on Netflix, the science fiction series Black Mirror is Hayley Atwell's best-rated piece of work at the moment. It features multiple actors who appeared in the MCU, other than Atwell also Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Hannah John-Kamen, Benedict Wong, and Pom Klementieff, to name just a few. Hayley Atwell plays the leading part of Martha in the first episode of the second season, titled Be Right Back. It centers on a lonely woman who loses the man she loves and uses a strange service to bring him back into her life. Sadly, their happy reunion isn't quite what she imagined.

Just like other episodes of the series, this one has an intelligent script and the power to make the audience think about technologies and their limits. Atwell is perfectly convincing as the grieving woman who makes bad decisions born out of loneliness and heartache. She and her episode co-star Domhnall Gleeson are the main reason, alongside the story itself, why watch this episode even if the viewers aren't familiar with the rest of the show. Since each episode presents a different story, it's not necessary to watch Black Mirror in chronological order.
