Fans of Age of Empires can now let out their excitement. The rumored plans for an Age of Empires event coming soon have been officially confirmed. Microsoft will host the event, officially dubbed the Age of Empires Fan Preview on April 10, starting at 9:00 AM PT. It'll feature the game fans have been waiting for, with new footage of Age of Empires 4 as well as other games from the Age of Empires franchise, too.

It's been over two years since fans got their first look at Age of Empires 4. Microsoft and Relic Entertainment have been very withholding of any information about the upcoming real-time strategy game. The dam is about to break, though. Microsoft says that it will showcase aspects of Age of Empires 4's civilizations, its campaign, and gameplay along the way. It sounds like the deepest look at Age of Empires 4 yet, though that's not a difficult water level to cross.

In addition to the Age of Empire 4 showcase, Microsoft will also be joined by World's Edge at the event. Together they'll discuss the Definitive Editions of both Age of Empires 2 and Age of Empires 3. Exactly what the plans are for those games isn't clear, though Microsoft did unveil a new Age of Empires 2 expansion named Lords of the West in late January.

The Age of Empires event had been previously leaked, even to the date. But even knowing the event was coming ahead of time isn't likely to hold back fans' enthusiasm for Age of Empires 4 news. Now those fans can put that energy toward hoping for a release date announcement for the RTS at the event.

Age of Empires 4 is in development for PC.
