Just about anybody could get a full Marvel project these days. It seems like they'll be making MCU shows and movies for generations, so no one is safe from the watchful eye of Disney Plus. Agatha: Coven of Chaos seems like a strange project, but it might still be an important part of the overall universe.

The idea of making a full show out of a character whose existence was based around a single big twist is weird, but, the popularity of Agatha's musical number speaks for itself. Kathryn Hahn immediately became a fan favorite, so it's not shocking to see the franchise capitalize on her fame.

If Agatha: Coven of Chaos is a personal story about a powerful witch escaping her fate and continuing her journey into the secrets of magic, it'll be a breath of fresh air. A Marvel show's merit isn't determined by how it pushes the ever-growing universe forward and a self-contained narrative is always welcome. However, almost no project from the franchise can be totally free of callbacks to the past and set up for the future. There are some unavoidable aspects of Coven of Chaos that will almost certainly have ramifications for the rest of the MCU. In addition, there are some elements of the character and the source material that could lead to surprising future projects.

Wanda

Wanda in Multiverse of madness

In the comics, Agatha is often the person who teaches Wanda Maximoff the magical skills she uses to claim the title of Scarlet Witch. Arguably, she gives her the motivation to learn magic in the MCU, but that doesn't have to be the end of her interaction with Wanda. After the events of Multiverse of Madness, Wanda's fate is unknown. It seems unlikely that the MCU would allow the character to stay dead for very long. Agatha joined the MCU as part of Wanda's solo project, so it stands to reason that Wanda could return to the franchise in Agatha's. Fans can't yet know most of the characters in Coven of Chaos. In fact, the only one who is confirmed to appear without her name in the title is Sarah Proctor, AKA Dottie from Wanda's various sitcoms. With another confirmed resident of Westview, Coven of Chaos could continue the process of making Wanda confront her actions.

Vision

The other half of the title of the show that introduced Agatha. Vision is brought back from the dead in WandaVision, and, with his memories restored, he leaves to find himself. He hasn't been seen since, and the world still thinks he's dead. Vision could easily make his way back into the franchise by returning to Westview. This seems less likely since the character's connection to Agatha is less present in the comics. However, revealing the return of Vision would be an excellent way for Coven of Chaos to shock the audience and tie into future MCU projects.

Magic and Mysteries

Kamar-Taj MCU

Though the lines are often blurred, there are definable corners of the MCU that operate on their own rules. Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy operate in the cosmic corner, Captain America and Black Widow are in a world of international intrigue, and Daredevil works in the seedy underbelly. Logically, Agatha's story will take place in the magical chunk of the MCU. That element of the universe is governed overwhelmingly by Doctor Strange and Wong, which means that any new element of the show could tie back to Kamar Taj. Magic in the MCU is perhaps the fastest-growing corner, with characters like Adam Warlock on their way in future films. It's entirely possible that Coven of Chaos could create ripples that will later influence the masters of the mystic arts.

The Fantastic Four

Marvel Franklin Richards

Perhaps a strange direction for the franchise, but one of Agatha's most important roles in the comics comes in her interactions with Franklin Richards. The son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm has Agatha Harkness as a loyal nanny. Her first appearance way back in the 70s cast her in that role, and she's served the Richards family many times since. Agatha's son Nicholas Scratch has served as an antagonist to The Fantastic Four. Agatha was once abducted and held hostage by Scratch and his coven, leading The Fantastic Four to rescue her. Though it's unlikely that something this important will be revealed in this strange little show, it wouldn't be shocking to see some reference to her son or her guardianship of Franklin.

Marvel loves to hide away little references in shows that feel like they have nothing to do with larger projects. Imagine if the fans clamoring for the first family of superheroes to join the MCU found out that the biggest hint towards that eventuality was in a seemingly unrelated Disney Plus show. That would be a clever way to tie back into the comics and a sneaky trick to secure greater viewership.
