It didn't take long after All Elite Wrestling formed for those involved with the company to confirm that a video game based on the promotion was in development. Three years later, and the AEW Fight Forever video game is nearing its release. We still don't have a specific AEW Fight Forever release date at the time of this writing, but thanks to Gamescom, fans now know what a full match in the game looks like.

AEW Fight Forever gameplay was revealed at Gamescom, depicting a match between Adam Cole and former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega. The HUD and general gameplay look a lot like an updated take on WWF No Mercy, with players building up their momentum meter in order to perform their most powerful moves. Once players manage to fill up their momentum meter, they can perform a taunt to go into their Special state, which lets them use their finisher. This is more or less exactly how WWF No Mercy works, so fans of the classic Nintendo 64 game should be pleased with what they're seeing from AEW Fight Forever.

The AEW Fight Forever gameplay footage was shown at Gamescom and presented through a Twitch live stream that featured Player Uno and Colt Cabana. To skip to the gameplay footage, head to about the 7-minute mark in the stream.

Something else AEW fans might notice are the tutorial messages that pop up throughout the match, which feature William Regal. These tutorial messages explain each stage of the match and various situations that players may find themselves in, letting them know how to perform their special attacks, break out of pin attempts, and escape submission holds. This should go a long way in helping players learn how to play the game when it comes out, especially since it seems as though it will be different from what pro wrestling fans may be used to in the latest WWE 2K video games.

AEW Fight Forever has detailed its game modes and shown off gameplay, so really the only question that remains is when fans will get to play the game for themselves. The AEW Fight Forever video game release date remains elusive, but it's still expected to launch at some point later this year. Whenever it does come out, it will be interesting to see how the game stacks up when compared to other pro wrestling video games on the market.

AEW Fight Forever will launch later this year for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
