As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, a number of companies in the video game industry have announced changes to some of their business practices involving the two countries. Earlier this morning, Nintendo made the announcement that it will be delaying its strategy game Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp to an unspecified date. Given the content of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp involves modern combat, Nintendo likely felt releasing this game right now would be in poor taste. The Advance Wars series is a turn-based strategy game where players pick their commanding officer to play as and produce a variety of units for combat, from infantry foot soldiers, reconnaissance vehicles, tanks, artillery, aircraft, and ships, to secure victory by capturing the other team's headquarters. Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the first two Advance Wars games that were released on the Game Boy Advance.RELATED: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Shows Footage of Both Campaigns and MoreIn a tweet posted by the company, it states that given current world events, it would be delaying Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp to a later date. Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp was initially slated for a December 2021 release before being delayed to 2022. During the Nintendo Direct in February, Nintendo gave Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp an official release date, which was supposed to be April 8. While the war itself was not mentioned, it is heavily implied that is the reason for the delay.

While the war between Russia and Ukraine has mostly affected Russian gamers that are being hit by heavy Western sanctions across multiple platforms, this is the first game to have a worldwide delay due to the war. However, this is not the first time that world events have delayed an Advance Wars game. The original Advance Wars was released on September 10, 2001 in North America, one day before the tragic events of 9/11. Following 9/11, Advance Wars was delayed for Europe and Japan.

Since most major video game companies are from North America, Japan, and Western Europe, a wave of support across the video game industry has come out in support of Ukraine. A lot of video game companies have suspended sales of their games in Russia, and some leagues have even banned Russian and Belarusian players from competing in their leagues.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp's release will have to wait until the end of hostilities between the two countries. For the sake of the world, hopefully that time is soon. If gamers wish to support Ukraine, there's a great games bundle that Itch.io released yesterday that they can buy.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
