During yesterday's Nintendo Direct showcase, Nintendo revealed a new trailer for their upcoming Switch strategy game, Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp. The remake of the first two games in the long-running Advance Wars series, Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp will present these two classic games in a new style with new animations.

The Advance Wars series is a sister series to the Famicom Wars series, which started all the way back in 1988. The first Advance Wars game released in 2001 on the Game Boy Advance. Its sequel, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, released two years later. The series has been dormant for over ten years, as the last game to be released in the entire Wars series was Advance Wars: Days of Ruin in 2008 for the Nintendo DS. Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp was announced last year during a Nintendo Direct at E3.

In this new trailer, Nintendo revealed some of the new features this game will have after it previously delayed Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp out of its initial December 2021 release date. Nintendo and WayForward, who are developing the game, have added in some quality of life features like fast-forward and resetting turns. Nintendo also confirmed that some features are returning from the original game like local multiplayer, the map editor, and the War Room. However, the biggest new feature of the game is voice acting, which will be a first for the series.

WayForward is famous for developing the Shantae series, and their penchant for doing 2D sprite work was likely a reason Nintendo went to it for the development of this game. The regular developer for the Advance Wars series, Intelligent Systems, is likely busy working on Fire Emblem given how popular the series is.

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp is likely a big relief for fans who have been wondering what would happen to the series after Intelligent Systems announced that sales of Advance Wars: Days of Ruin were much lower than expected. After Fire Emblem: Awakening made Fire Emblem popular, the developer has been working on that series ever since, only taking a couple of breaks to crank out a couple of Paper Mario games.

A rumor came out late last year that while the game would be delayed into 2022, Nintendo had a new release date already set. Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp would be pushed back to April 8, 2022 according to its listing on the eShop. That date was reconfirmed yesterday. Fans can look forward to Advance Wars' return soon.

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on April 8, 2022.
