Bans are quite common on Twitch, especially brief ones, but they're also the center of many controversies on the platform. More specifically, users often criticize Twitch for double standards or punishing one streamer when another is committing the same offenses.

In the last few months, a number of controversies related to bans have graced the Amazon-owned website, including the hot tub and ASMR metas, resulting in the unexpected permanent ban of Indiefoxx, as well as the gambling streams that have been criticized by big names such as Pokimane. But this time, Adin Ross has been permanently banned for an unexpected reason.

Streamer Calls Out Adin Ross to Twitch JakenbakeLIVE

While normally known for streaming GTA 5 and NBA 2K, Adin Ross is also known to do IRL streams on Twitch, which is when the ban occurred. However, the punishment wasn't initiated by Twitch until another streamer by the name of called Twitch's attention to Ross on Twitter, exposing a double standard. According to Jake, he was instantly banned for 7 days for checking his phone on a private raceway in full safety gear, attaching a clip of Adin Ross looking down towards his lap several times in a moving car.

In an Instagram Live video, Adin claimed to have been at a red stoplight while he was checking Twitch chat, but he was clearly looking down at his phone in his right hand while the car still moving, which is, of course, illegal in most states. After many users reported the clip, Twitch banned the Grand Theft Auto streamer indefinitely.

While it may have looked like Ross's ban may have just been brief much like his previous ones, he tweeted out that it looks like it's "permanent" this time. He's still unsure if this is exactly the case because Twitch has a history of being intransparent with its users, and it's unclear what brought him to this realization in the first place.

However, Twitch Plays Pokemon streamer Mizkif commented on the situation, believing that the ban is likely only 7 days and not permanent. This would seem like the more likely, less drastic option as Ross has never been banned for using his phone and driving before, but Twitch is known for suddenly invoking bans without clear warnings, and it doesn't establish how long bans last, either to the public or to the streamer themself. So either could be possible, at this point.

Still, the Roblox gamer retains that the whole situation is entirely his fault and has apologized to his audience a number of times. He also explained that he plans to appeal the ban as he's had severe anxiety after supposedly losing his massive platform.

Adin Ross still has three moderately successful YouTube channels. If it turns out that his ban on Twitch is, in fact, permanent, then it's likely he'll move his gaming streams over to YouTube much like Dr Disrespect did after his own permaban, which could include as many 4.3 million followers from his Twitch channel.
