Adam Sandler is nothing if not prolific, consistently putting out comedy films year after year with no end in sight. While the comedian still has a fairly consistent output of successful films, many of his biggest fans still prefer some of his older work, such as the Universal Pictures sports comedy Happy Gilmore, which had a very impressive box office on release, solidifying Sandler's reputation as a successful film actor after leaving Saturday Night Live.

Of course, time being the unstoppable force that it is, Happy Gilmore recently turned 25 years old, having come out in 1995. Anniversaries are always a great time to have a little fun of course, so Sandler decided to post a fun tribute to the film that helped launch his career in movies by recreating an iconic scene from the film.

In the original film, Happy Gilmore is a wannabe ice hockey player who struggles with actually being on the ice, and his failure to achieve his goals has left him without direction in life. Pretty soon, however, he realizes that his one hockey skill, a powerful slapshot, translates into an incredible driving swing at the local golf course.

Pretty soon Gilmore ends up playing in a golf tournament, where his childish behavior and one-hit-wonder talent draws the ire of pro-golfer Shooter McGavin. Eventually, events move towards a final showdown between the two at the local Tour Championship game.

So, in a short Twitter video, Sandler attempted to recreate his character's famous long drive shot, remarking that it had been 25 years, so "let's see what happens." After he takes the swing, Sandler seemed impressed by his own shot, stating: "And I am not lying to you: that is smashed. Smashed. That went pretty well." Of course, he also had to give one last call out to his nemesis from the film, Shooter McGavin, turning to the camera and taunting him with the simple phrase, "you're dead, Shooter."

While Sandler continues to put out successful films, including an ongoing deal with Netflix for several new projects, it's nice to see that he still takes time to remember the old hits as well. It's always nice to do something a little special for the long-term fans and hopefully, they appreciate the callback.

Happy Gilmore is now available on Netflix.
