When it comes to the next movies based on the DC Comics universe the sky is almost absolutely the limit. Fans are wanting to see characters that haven't been on the big screen yet, both when it comes to the heroes and the villains. Among those who could end up making for a very good foil for whatever hero's movie he appears in, is the otherworldly god-like creature known as Mr. Mxyzptlk. The character has been a staple of the weird and wacky world that is DC Comics and DC television shows for decades because he's such a formidable enemy. He's someone that is incredibly hard to defeat with brute strength and has really only ever been beaten when he was outsmarted by Superman or Batman or one of the rest of the most popular combatants in what is becoming the DCEU.

However, if adding Mxyzptlk does indeed happen in the near future, he's going to need to be played by the perfect actor. It's got to be someone who can pull off a kind of childlike wonder at times, while also being plenty aggressive, violent, and dangerous other times. He has to be someone who isn't going to have qualms putting Lois Lane in harm's way just to get a rise out of Superman. He's also got to be able to pull that off while still charming the audience. Luckily there are some actors out there that absolutely know how to blend those qualities into one great package.

Alan Tudyk

Quite frankly, there may not be another actor out there right now who is better suited to play Mr. Mxyzptlk than Alan Tudyk. The actor has managed to put himself into the category of one of the best comedic actors on television who somehow still seems to fly under the radar more than not. The first checkmark in the "pro" column for the funny man is that he's no stranger to DC comic-based stories. He appeared in Season 1 of HBO Max's Doom Patrol as the evil supervillain Mr. Nobody. Coincidently, Mr. Nobody is also a kind of god-like entity who enjoys playing with his victims before he kills or banishes them, much like a big screen Mr. Mxyzptlk would likely do.

His experience taking on the role of a DC supervillain doesn't stop there either. Tudyk is also the voice of The Joker in the animated Harley Quinn series (also on HBO Max.) Here too, he combines the personality who absolutely wants to do violence to anyone and everyone he encounters, but he does it in such a way that you love to see the character on screen. It doesn't seem hard at all to imagine that Tudyk could pull off the same kind of performance on the silver screen in an upcoming DCEU movie.

Owen Wilson

Owen Wilson isn't always the kind of guy someone would think of for a character as goofy as Mr. Mxyzptlk but he could actually be perfect for the part. He's definitely got different energy than someone like Tudyk, but he's been in plenty of comedy movies over the years. He's also no stranger to comic book movies anymore, thanks to his supporting role in Loki. The character might take on a less goofy vibe if Wilson took on the role, but that doesn't mean he couldn't still pull it off. The goofiness would just instead be a kind of surfer bro humor rather than weirdly energetic. There's an added bonus in the fact that while Wilson has been in the MCU, it wasn't a massive role and it wasn't in any movie, so only dedicated comic book movie fans would realize that he'd already appeared in the other comic book universe.

Jim Carrey

When it comes to comedic actors who have a very wide range and ability to slide into the roles of several different personalities in the span of a couple of minutes, Jim Carrey is right at the top of the list. Should the DCEU go this route, the sky is really the limit when it comes to just what kind of Mr. Mxyzptlk audiences could see on the screen. Carrey has no qualms about going all out and very much over the top, if that's what the part calls for in the script. He can also be quiet and reserved if that's what's needed. However, there is at least some doubt as to whether or not he could be truly convincing as a foreboding villain. He has actually played a DC comics villain once before in The Riddler, but he was decidedly goofy and not exactly intimidating in that particular role.

Jack Black

jack black

Jack Black is the only name on this list who has never had a big part in a comic book-based television show or movie. It's also possible that the comedic actor is basically retired. However, if there was a role that he might come back for, it could be as Mr. Mxyzptlk. Black certainly has the chops to be crazy and whacky, but also project an air of someone who is out to kill an entire city if that's what it takes to get what he wants. The best part is, he's also got the kind chops that it wouldn't be hard to think that when asked what he wants, he's not going to be forthcoming. That ... in a nutshell, is Mr. Mxyzptlk for sure.

Martin Short

Speaking of actors that haven't been in DC comics, or any other comic book movies but would likely be able to adapt quite quickly, Martin Short is seeing a bit of a resurgence in his career in the last year. Appearing in Apple TV's Schmigadoon! and Hulu's Only Murders in the Building, it might be time for Short to get back on the big screen. When it comes to playing Mr. Mxyzptlk, Short certainly has the ability to pull off the elfish character and give him a sort of grandfatherly twist. It's not hard to imagine that Short could also take that combination and also add in a sinister edge. In fact, other than Tudyk, it's not a stretch to think of Martin Short as the perfect actor to play the part in whatever DCEU movie Mxyzptlk finally makes an appearance.
