Activision Blizzard, one of the largest third-party developers known for its impact on PC and console gaming, has just revealed that its mobile platform is now its largest.

The latest earnings report came with a slew of interesting news for the company that is known for massive hits and silly failures. The console and PC giant suddenly has a new strength in mobile gaming.

The most notable aspect of the Activision Blizzard report is for the three months leading up to December 31, 2019, and shows that the mobile platform has overtaken over both the PC and console branches. The mobile and ancillary platform brought in a revenue of $633 million. Meanwhile, the console revenue was $595 million and the PC revenue was $521 million.

Console earnings have seen a massive decrease, from a revenue of $808 million in 2018 to $595 million in 2019 over that same period, a difference of $213 million. PCs had a difference of $206 million. Mobile was the only platform to rise, with an increase of $37 million. This may be partially thanks to the success of Call of Duty: Mobile. The game has been extremely successful thus far and no doubt Activision Blizzard plans to push Call of Duty: Mobile to new heights moving forward.

One of the interesting aspects of this revenue turn of events is that ever since the Activision Blizzard merger, this powerhouse developer has seemingly been able to own a piece of the console and PC marketplace when it comes to game publishing. Activision had series like Call of Duty007, and Tony Hawk, while Blizzard had games like World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. It seemed almost like a monopoly. Since then the duo has continued to make high profile games like Overwatch and purchased large developers like King, the mobile maker of Candy Crush.

Although the massive third-party developer has had huge successes, the mobile platform has now taken the lead when it comes to revenue. Another Call of Duty is on surely on the way, and Diablo IIII will be here soon enough, yet the mobile platform has taken the reins. Activision Blizzard may have foreseen some of this, as back in 2018 it had made the decision to analyze making mobile versions of all of its IPs.

With the success of games like Candy Crush, Hearthstone, and Call of Duty: Mobile, it shouldn't come as a surprise if Activision Blizzard puts a focus on its mobile platform. It is fair to wonder if mobile may start to see iterations of console/PC ports, or even spin-offs of a console/PC franchises. Diablo Immortal is already on its way to mobile and just recently fans received an update on the game. Players will most likely hope that a mobile push doesn't mean that the console and PC side of gaming gets neglected. A three-pillar strategy, if balanced correctly, of console, PC, and mobile games with the large swath of Activision Blizzard franchises could certainly be a winning formula.
