Following the October 2011 release of Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, which was nominated by Game Rant as one of the most innovative games of the year, Activision has registered new domain names that seem to point towards a new Skylanders adventure called Skylanders: Giants.

Activision, working with internet brand protection company MarkMonitor, has apparently purchased several domains under the new game’s name. A few of the domains listed below indicate that Skylanders: Giants a full game and not just an expansion to Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, in the event that gamers were questioning what type of project this would be.

The registrations are very recent though, starting on January 19, 2012, and it needs to be mentioned that none of the domains directly link to Activision. For those who are unfamiliar with the process of registering domains, it is not uncommon for a publisher to use a proxy for unnamed projects. Activision is not unfamiliar with this process, having just registered Black Ops 2 in the same fashion on January 9.

The following list are the names  of the domains that have been registered for Skylanders: Giants.

Given the huge success Activision has had with the first Skylanders game, it can hardly be a surprise that the company is moving ahead with a sequel. The big question is whether the action figures produced for the first game will work with Skylanders: Giants. If so, cool. If not, well… the first game didn’t end up on Game Rant’s list of the Top 5 Video Game Money Grabs of 2011 for nothing.

At the end of the day, what this means for gamers is a new game, from the same franchise that we at Game Rant found highly innovative. Considering what we already know about Spyro’s Adventure, we’re hoping that Giants is a worthy addition and follows up last October’s game with a bang.

Ranters, are you excited about a new Skylanders game? Do you think Activision will require gamers to invest in all new action figures for Giants?

Skylanders: Giants has not been officially announced.
