The Ace Combat series is still going strong with over ten games under its belt and the upcoming release of another title this year. The next installment is titled Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and it's by Namco Bandai, featuring the intense aerial combat the series has been known for.

A new Ace Combat: Assault Horizon trailer has been released, showcasing the close-range dogfighting gameplay featured in the game.

Offering a plethora of jets to use and, for the first time in the series, the use of helicopters, namely the AH-64D Apache Longbow and the UH-60 Blackhawk, Assault Horizon will continue the tradition of offering gamers a slightly more "arcade" feel for plane-to-plane battles.

The H.A.W.X. series from Ubisoft's Tom Clancy line of games also offers aerial battles for gamers to enjoy, but Ace Combat has been around for quite a bit longer and Assault Horizon looks like it will be retaining its dominance in that category.

Take a gander:

The footage does lack any kind of helicopter gunplay, but if you ever played Modern Warfare 2 and were good enough to acquire the Chopper Gunner killstreak, it might give you a slight idea on what that might look like. The gameplay in Assault Horizon looks like it's going to be fast and somewhat furious, no doubt giving players a nice adrenaline rush.

Assault Horizon looks great graphically and the gameplay itself is fast-paced and might be enough to give you motion sickness if you're not ready for it. For a franchise as old as the Ace Combat series, the games still offer the fun value of an arcade game, but with enough depth for variety of gameplay. And who doesn't like thinking they graduated Top Gun school after blasting bogies out of the sky?

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will be arriving on target in 2011 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
