Helicopter implementation in warfare is just as important as sending in the fast-movers. Choppers provide stable support platforms, troop transport, and just that extra layer of comfort for the boots on the ground. Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will feature helicopters for the first time in the series’ history, and it looks pretty good so far. after all, who doesn’t like raining down lead in an AH-64 Apache?
To celebrate the chopper gameplay, new screenshots depicting the game’s various helicopters, bomber planes, and jets have been released alongside a video of the game in action. It’s all Ace Combat, all the time!
In addition to the massive influx of media, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon currently has a demo available for download on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The demo gives players access to the third mission in the game, in which they will be in control of one of the brand new choppers.
The video shows off the demo gameplay and should give players an idea of what the game’s helicopter engagements are like — they definitely differ from the more familiar jets.
Previously, we provided you with the game’s complete aircraft list. Assault Horizon will be portraying many of the aircraftcomm only used in today’s air forces, and while jet planes are nothing to scoff at, helicopters can be just as fun to pilot into battle against enemy targets. In fact, helicopters in Assault Horizon will serve double duty as both troop support and air power to engage enemy choppers. Take a look at the demo video below and don’t forget, you can download the demo now and see how the latest Ace Combat measures up to previous releases.
Seeing gameplay in action is all well and good, but the screenshots for Assault Horizon are also something to behold. Namco Bandai put a lot of work into ensuring that all the aircraft look as good as possible and so far, the results are impressive. Below, you will see a large variety of aircraft. Check out the broken down list:

In case you wanted to see the planes in action, Namco Bandai also released a video of aerial engagement involving jet planes, and featuring the game’s new Dogfighting Mode. For a more cinematic flair, avail yourself of the Gamescom 2011 trailer.
Finally, those who want their plane-to-plane combat on the go can look forward to the just announced Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy, which will be available for the 3DS. Legacy will deliver all the intense dogfighting action of its console sibling on a portable platform, and in 3D, no less.
