While exploring the Isle of Skye in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, players will come across a Brewer near Dunvegan Village that has lost his notes. These missing notes can be found in the home near the Brewer, and they provide details on the ingredients that are used to make the “Drink of the Picts.”

Those ingredients are two Barley, one Wheat, and one Firefly, and this guide contains details on exactly where Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players can find all of them. It will cover the World Event Mystery quest in question, as well as touch on the Isle of Skye it resides in.

Updated December 30, 2022, by Stephen LaGioia: Added as part of a major update in December 2021, AC Valhalla players were treated with over 60 GB worth of new content, further enhancing this already massive Viking epic. Most notably, the added content brings an AC Odyssey crossover by way of the "Fated Encounter" quest. It also invites players to enjoy the lavish new Isle of Skye for Eivor to explore and plunder. While (relatively) small, there is plenty to do on this island, and plenty more to collect. As such, we thought we'd revisit this piece, and further delve into this quest as well as the Isle of Skye, which is where it can be reached.

Prerequisites For Reaching This Location And Quest

Valhalla's Seer Valka speaking in dark temple
  • Before reaching the area and completing the Drink of the Picts quest, players must first be sure the 1.4.1 Update is downloaded and installed, as this features the "Fated Encounter" and Isle of Skye locations and Mysteries.
  • Additionally, players will first need to reach level 4 with Eivor's Settlement in Ravensthorpe. Doing so will make available Edyt and Valka (northwest region of the settlement), as they're the ones who enable Eivor to travel to the Isle of Skye.
  • Players will then be able to access the Isle of Skye upon speaking with Edyt, and Eivor will sail to Brother's Point in the eastern region of the island.

This is not a limited-time event, and Eivor can come and go at any time, even once the quest is initiated.

The Isle Of Skye

  • Residents of this secluded new island are haunted by nightmares, prompting Eivor to investigate, and eventually meet up with the heroine from AC Odyssey, Kassandra.
  • Wealth and Gear: (7) Tungsten Ingots, Spear of Leonidas, The Hero's Sword
  • Artifacts:
    • Isle of Skye Cursed Symbol
    • Kiltaraglen Flying Paper
    • Tobhta Flying Paper
    • Dunvegan Village Flying Paper
    • Isle of Skye Hoard Map
  • Mysteries:
  • Keep in mind that the Isle of Skye's power level is 55, so Eivor can reach this land and finish the quest somewhat early on—though players won't want to venture there too quickly after starting a new game.

Barley, Wheat, Firefly Locations For "Drink of the Picts"

  • To commence this Mystery and begin seeking the Barley, players need to visit the house in Dunvegan Village that contains a note with the ingredients. The village sits on the shoreline near the western region of the island, right where the land extends out into a larger wing-like shape on the left.
  • There are three sacks pushed against the exterior wall of this house, and interacting with them will grant one Barley.
    • Notably, using Odin’s Sight will highlight these sacks, making them quite easy to track down. This should be repeated when seeking each of the ingredients, as it will make their location apparent.

  • Players should now head west to enter a small field and hop over the stone wall that forms its western boundary. Just on the other side of that stone wall, players will see a wooden alcove that has a sloped roof, and there are sacks inside of it that contain a second Barley.
  • With the two Barley obtained, jump back over the stone wall to reenter the field and then meditate until night. After finishing this meditation, Eivor should again use Odin’s Sight to reveal the Wheat that can be harvested in order to complete this Mystery.
    • This is the one that is positioned closest to the crate with the candle on it.
  • Players will also see some Fireflies flying around in the field, and they will have all of the ingredients that they need once they catch one. Players will likely need to be swift and move quietly to grab them.
  • At this point, players should return to the Brewer in order to hand over the ingredients and finally complete the Drink of the Picts Mystery.

Completion And Rewards

AC Valhalla Drink of the Picts giving ingredients to Brewer

With this potent drink now finished and made by the Brewer, Eivor will be thanked and will receive some XP. While he won't share the brew Eivor helped make with them, it's still a pretty simple quest that works towards completing the Isle of Skye and gaining XP.

With this Mystery complete, players will be free to continue their exploration of AC Valhalla’s Isle of Skye. The island remains a fun and fruitful place to visit when playing Assassin’s Creed Crossover Stories, and given its rather small size, Eivor can encounter additional Mysteries, Wealth Chests, and Artifacts here fairly quickly. With this Mystery complete, there will only be 2 Mysteries on the Isle of Skye remaining.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
