Hunting in Assassin's Creed Valhalla is an ongoing effort, and players are going to need a lot of various different types of animal parts. For the most part, these are easy to find, but some of the materials needed for hunter's deliveries can be a pain to locate.

It may seem obvious that black bear fur comes from black bears, but actually finding a black bear is a lot harder than one might expect. Most of the bears that players run across will be brown bears, and there are even some polar bears that can be found in the northernmost reaches of Norway. Alongside finding dog fangs for hunter deliveries, these are one of the most difficult animal resources to get.

Naturally, Assassin's Creed Valhalla players must kill black bears in order to get black bear furs, but finding them is a hassle. There is one particular area where black bears are guaranteed to spawn, however, and players will want to farm this spot as much as possible. One of the best ways to do this is to find the bears, get the furs, and then fast travel to a nearby viewpoint or dock. Run back to that location and the bears should respawn.

Updated February 7, 2022 by Stephen LaGioia: Gathering materials and resources remains a useful activity in Valhalla, especially as players look to bring a high-powered Eivor into the tougher regions of Ireland and Francia, by way of the recent DLC packs. In the meantime though, new players may be seeking ways in which to net fun rewards and valuable resources, while brushing up on some advanced hunting.

We thus decided to revisit and flesh out this guide related to black bears and their fur — given how tough this task can be compared to some other hunter deliveries. It should be noted that, as of this writing, black bears remain a rarity and is still mostly spotted within the one location mentioned here. However, we did feel there were some additional details that could be filled in.

Finding And Reaching Lincolnscire Black Bears

One reliable place to find black bears in Assassin's Creed Valhalla is on the border of Lincolnscire and Ledecestrescire. To be more specific, this is to the southwest of the city of Anecastre, on the west side of the river. In this area, players should see a black bear or two roaming around near some small peaks.

  • Keep in mind, the suggested power for this area is 160.
  • It's a good idea to use the raven to scout to more effectively pinpoint their location, as they will be on the move.
    • In this view, players can tag a bear they spot, and the waypoint will follow them as they move.
  • Where there's one black bear, there's usually at least two more, so don't give up right away.
    • Unfortunately, the hides have a low drop rate, so this may take awhile.

Black Bears – More Details And Tips For Fighting Them

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Black Bear fight

Black bears are some of the tougher animal foes to take down in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Legendary animals notwithstanding of course. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • The bear is quite aggressive and won't be shy about charging at Eivor just about any chance it gets, so be prepared to dodge or fall back a bit.
  • Arrows are a good choice to use as Eivor can safely keep their distance.
  • Damage-over-time powers like poison or fire are also effective.
  • If going in for melee attacks, it's a good idea to use one-handed, lighter weapons, as they allow for quicker strikes. This is ideal, as these bears are quick and move around quite a bit.

Fastest Way to Farm Black Bears

While the previously mentioned method works well, players have discovered an even faster way to get these black bear furs. This is a fairly easy exploit, and a handy one given how rare these bears usually are.

  • Head to the area between Lincolnscire and Ledecestrescire and then call the longboat to the nearby river.
  • After killing the bears in this area, fast travel to any non-port fast travel point and then fast travel right back to the ship.
  • This should respawn the black bears and spawn the player right next to the spawn point.

Players who build the Hunter's Hut on their settlement in Ravensthorpe will open up a slew of hunting tasks in addition to the request to slay black bears. But those specifically requiring black bear fur boil down to two orders (as of now) from Petra and Wallace.

Bone Brew

Tekla claims she will be making something called a "bone brew" as her next ale. Perhaps it will taste better than it sounds.

So in total, players will need around 12 black bear furs to complete both of the hunter deliveries that include these furs as part of the orders.

Collectively, these reward Eivor handsomely, so they are definitely worth considering. Beyond the rewards listed, the bears will usually yield leather when slain as well as XP.

Of course, it should be noted that it's possible to beat the entirety of Assassin's Creed Valhalla without ever touching the Hunter's Hut, so it's up to each player to decide whether they want to spend the time hunting down black bears. But the rewards are plentiful and useful over time.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
