Although Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, based on the best-selling alternate history novel from Seth Grahame-Smith, didn’t make quite as a big a splash as 20th Century Fox was hoping for, there’s still plenty more uses available for our vampire-slaying 16th President, namely in the world of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Over on the Nexus forums, in the Skyrim section, a new mod is being proposed in preparation for the PC release of Dawnguard that would see Abraham Lincoln appear as a playable character.
While the Dawnguard expansion — which allows players to either side with the vampires and becomes themselves a creature of the night or to join the Dawnguard, a community of vampire hunters whose weapon of choice is the crossbow — has already released for the Xbox 360, PC players are still counting the days until their platform’s release.
In preparation, however, some clever modders have already begun working on this Abraham Lincoln of the vampire-hunting persuasion, namely the creation of a stovepipe hat. Take a look below:
It’s only the first step towards a fully-fledged Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter mod (we assume that an old-timey suit and some sort of silver-edged axe would be the next orders of business), but it’s a really great start. And Abraham Lincoln, we imagine, is only the beginning — paving the way for the creation of more iconic vampire and vampire-hunting characters, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Blade.
While the expansion itself is all about choosing a side, many will want the abilities and weapons of the Dawnguard and the vampires. Perhaps a crafty modder can make a character that has all of the vampire abilities, like being able to teleport and turn into a group of bats, but that is a member of the Dawnguard.
To grab the Lincoln hat simply head over to the Nexus forums and download, and then prepare to let the vampire hunting begin. Based on a typical Microsoft exclusivity deal with DLC, gamers on the PC can expect to get their hands on the Dawnguard expansion in a little under a month.
What other types of vampire-inspired mods would you like to see created for the world of Skyrim? Could this be fans’ chance to play as an iconic vampire hunter?
Skyrim‘s Dawnguard expansion currently has no PC or PS3 release date, but is available now for the Xbox 360.
