A new trailer for A Plague Tale: Requiem has been released by the developer ahead of the game’s release next month. Picking up six months after the events of the first game, A Plague Tale: Requiem reintroduces players to Amicia and Hugo De Rune as they embark on another adventure in a rat-infested world.

Asobo Studio recently confirmed that players can expect A Plague Tale: Requiem to last between 15-18 hours, which is significantly longer than the original’s approximate 10-hour runtime. However, the team has stressed that the follow-up wasn’t larger in scale for the sake of it, but rather the run time fits the story. In support of this message, a new story trailer has been released that teases what gamers can look forward to on October 18.

In the latest trailer for A Plague Tale: Requiem, players see the return of Amicia and Hugo De Rune as they settle into their new life in Provence, France. The happiness appears to disappear quickly as thousands of rats descend on the village, bringing with them the deadly black plague and a mysterious illness that befalls the younger sibling. Viewers are then treated to a taste of gameplay as Amicia is seen sneaking up on numerous enemies before taking them down as well as showcasing new weapons such as smoke bombs that extinguish torches to attract rats to enemy locations.

Fans of 2019’s A Plague Tale: Innocence will also be happy to hear that Hugo will see an expanded role in Requiem. The younger De Rune sibling will be able to utilize his powers to control the rat hordes that are decimating France, but it seems his powers will go deeper than this. The latest trailer hints that his powers have seen a lot of growth from the previous installment, as he is seeing visions of places players will need to explore to progress through the game’s plot.

Despite the new trailer, details on how the story progresses in Requiem are rightfully being kept deliberately vague, however, the changes don’t appear to be just at the surface level. Asobo focused the development of Requiem on current-gen consoles, allowing them to pull off changes such as rendering hundreds of thousands of rats in real-time, which wouldn’t have been possible on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles.

It is worth mentioning that the original game was more focused on the narrative elements to such an extent it is considered one of the most emotional games on Xbox Series X/S. It remains to see how the expanded run time and new gameplay mechanics will affect the overall experience of Requiem, but fans will only have a short wait for the next Plague Tale game.

A Plague Tale: Requiem will release across PC, PS5, Switch (cloud version), and Xbox Series X/S on October 18, 2022.
