Two years ago, A Plague Tale: Innocence was released and gained a bit of a cult following thanks to its frightening and harrowing atmosphere. A sequel to the game, A Plague Tale: Requiem, was announced earlier this year at E3, with a targeted release of 2022. The main draw of A Plague Tale was its story, where it focused on a supernatural evil that hounded the two main characters within a historical setting. The story of A Plague Tale: Requiem seems to be ramping up the stakes, as evidenced by a new gameplay trailer.

After the original game's finale, players will still be trying to avoid the supernatural curse hounding the main characters. Many players can catch up on A Plague Tale: Innocence through the Xbox Game Pass, as Requiem will also be making its debut on the service. This new trailer shows off some of what to expect, with story beats and mechanics that are expanded upon from the previous game.

A Plague Tale: Requiem's gameplay trailer was unveiled at The Game Awards where its gameplay elements were shown off in a specatacular way. This can be seen with the main character, Amicia de Rune, exploring several different locales that are heavily based on historical European settings. This isn't just limited to typical marketplaces and castles, but also traversing the world by ships to cross vast oceans. This is strengthened by the voiceover monologue on the trailer, where the narrator references greving a sailor.

Combat of A Plague Tale: Requiem was also shown off, where the player can engage in enemies from afar with a crossbow, or execute stealth melee attacks on unsuspecting enemies. Other set pieces included a sequence where players can shoot at enemies while going down a river on a boat, or exploring a dark dank cave filled with rats only lit by torches.

Despite A Plague Tale: Requiem's brighter world in comparison to Innocence, the story itself also seems to be going a bleaker path. Amicia is noting that she is starting to feeling her mind being lost to the supernatural force that she and her companion are pursued by. Other oppressing story beats are shown off in the trailer, from Amicia being chased and pinned down, to a terrifying infestation of rats pouring out from the castle walls and overwhelming them. The final shot of the trailer shows a frozen figure in a dark cave, giving players one last mystery to ponder on before the game's release.

A Plague Tale: Requiem will release for PC, PS5, Switch (Cloud play), Xbox Series X/S consoles in 2022.
