October is a month packed with big releases, and one of the titles gamers are looking out for is A Plague Tale: Requiem. It serves as the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence, which follows Amicia and Hugo as they attempt to survive a terrible rat plague. Although stealth gameplay will be making a return, things should progress a little quicker thanks to Amicia's new crossbow.

Amicia and Hugo are far weaker than soldiers of the Inquisition, so they have to slink into the shadows and use tricks to gain the upper hand. The crossbow should help Amicia make light work of her enemies, though it may have terrible effects on her psyche. She will need everything she can get her hands on because A Plague Tale: Requiem will have her facing bigger dangers than ever.

The Slow Stealth Gameplay of A Plague Tale: Innocence

Players are introduced to Amicia and her little brother Hugo in A Plague Tale: Innocence. The game was developed by Asobo Studio and released in 2019, and it is set in France during the 14th century. After the Inquisition rolls around looking for Hugo, Amicia and her brother are forced to flee. This is no easy task, as there is a terrible rat plague that has the streets swarming with deadly, disease-ridden rodents. Amicia has to protect her little brother from danger while attempting to figure out why the Inquisition is so interested in him.

Amicia is a regular woman, and she has no superpowers to help her out. However, she is pretty skilled with a slingshot, and she uses it to eliminate members of the Inquisition while she hides in the shadows. As Innocence progresses, she gets better with her slingshot, and she uses it for other purposes, such as to extinguish flames and light up braziers. While the slingshot is useful, it is puny compared to the weapons that the Inquisition carries, so Hugo and his sister are forced to hide in the shadows for most of the game. Consequently, huge sections of A Plague Tale: Innocence involve slow-paced stealth gameplay where players try their hardest to not be seen.

Amicia Gains New Weapons in A Plague Tale: Requiem

A Plague Tale: Requiem Hugo and Amicia

In A Plague Tale: Requiem, Amicia will have a few new weapons to play around with. As trailers have shown, she will be able to creep up behind enemies and kill them using a knife. When she needs to perform ranged kills, she can also make use of a crossbow. As the latest Requiem trailer revealed, the crossbow makes light work of any enemies provided Amicia's aim is good. For foes who are a little tougher, the crossbow can also be loaded up with flaming arrows for maximum impact.

Amicia isn't the only one with some new skills, as Hugo will be able to use his rat-based powers to scan for enemies using sonar-like abilities. The pair will certainly need all the extra firepower, as they will be facing bigger challenges than ever. In addition to squaring off against the Inquisition again, they will be facing even bigger rat swarms. Thanks to the power of current-generation consoles, developers have been able to render more rats than ever, and gamers can expect to see more than 300,000 rats at once.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is just one of several spooky games players can expect this October. Gamers can also look forward to titles like Scorn and Cthulhu Books of Ancients to give them a terrifying Halloween. However, for rat-based terror and psychological horror, Requiem may be the best option.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is scheduled to release on October 18, 2022, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch via cloud.
