A Plague Tale: Innocence is a gruesome stealth adventure with plenty of horror aspects built-in. Players take on the role of Amicia de Rune on her journey to survive a plague-ridden world along with her brother Hugo. Even the trophies and achievements that gamers can earn while playing A Plague Tale: Innocence reflect the atmosphere of despair that is constantly present in the game. For example, the Savior trophy/achievement requires the player to save a soldier from a horrible death.

The chance to earn the Savior achievement comes several chapters into the game. There can be a bit of a learning curve to overcome before players make it that far. Some beginner tips for A Plague Tale: Innocence will help players find early success. Being observant is the most important thing, as it will keep gamers safe from missing out on opportunities to earn trophies or achievements.

How to Save a Soldier in A Plague Tale: Innocence

Players can save a soldier and earn the Savior trophy/achievement in Chapter 5. This is relatively early in the overall length of A Plague Tale: Innocence. The achievement is somewhat missable, in the sense that the only opportunity to earn it is in Chapter 5. However, there is a chapter selection feature that is unlocked after beating the game. Any player who misses out on the Savior trophy or other achievements can finish out their completion of the game once chapter selection is unlocked.

While sneaking across a battlefield inspired by real medieval history, the player will have to shoot down some corpses from a tree to distract the rats blocking a wooden structure. Inside, Amicia and Hugo come across a trapped soldier who calls out for help. To save him, players must immediately find a spot to place their torch near the structure's entrance. Then, the player should fling an Ignifer to light the torch near the stranded soldier's position. This will save him from being eaten by rats, triggering a short conversation and the trophy/achievement to pop for the player.

Players who rush ahead with torch in hand will push the swarm of rats directly towards the trapped soldier. Proceeding beyond that point, the rats will lose interest in Amicia and turn their attention towards the nearby soldier. He will be eaten alive, rendering it impossible to earn the Savior achievement until the chapter can be revisited on a separate playthrough or using the Chapter Select feature after beating the game.

The Savior trophy/achievement is an optional accolade that relatively few players have earned. With many gamers playing A Plague Tale: Innocence for free due to Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, that may change. New fans of the game will surely be eager to explore everything that the dark narrative has to offer.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
