The adorable 3D platformer A Hat in Time finally has a release date on Switch. Developer Gears for Breakfast announced the Switch port at Gamescom last year and the port is finally coming.

A Hat in Time released to great reviews in 2017. The game harkens back to the era of mascot platformers like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. Reviewers praised the game for its modernization of the classic design, something that games like Yooka-Laylee tried to do but couldn’t quite manage.

These influences make A Hat in Time a great fit for the Switch. Switch players will get to try it out for themselves on October 18th. To celebrate the upcoming Switch release, the developers have provided a Switch launch trailer for the game.

A Hat in Time came to life thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, and has had a great run since then on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game stars a young girl with a busted spaceship who must jump her way through a bunch of open-ended planetary environments to get enough fuel to bring her home.

The game, in true mascot platformer fashion, features a ton of different things to collect along the way. A Hat in Time should serve as a fantastic distraction for Switch owners who finished Mario Odyssey and have anxiously waited for a game to fill the plumber-shaped void left in their life.

Since A Hat in Time came out, the developers have released  DLC for the title and that will come to Switch as well, however, this is not a definitive edition. Fans must buy the DLC, Seal the Deal, separately in the eshop. The move makes sense considering the game comes from a small developer, but after two years it might have served as a nice incentive for folks who might want to jump back in on the go.

Fans of boxed games should know that the developer will also provide a physical edition of the game, a rare treat from games of this size. Folks can purchase that on October 18th as well.

Gears for Breakfast hasn't detailed a price for the game yet, but it retails for $29.99 on other platforms, so it stands to reason the Switch version will cost the same. Hopefully the game does well enough on the console to encourage the developers to get to work on a sequel.

A Hat in Time is now available on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. It will release on Switch on October 18th.
