The official website for the upcoming A Couple of Cuckoos posted an English-subtitled video on Monday, revealing additional cast members, the opening song, and an April 2022 premiere.
The opening theme song, “Dekoboko” is sung by Ikimonogakari vocalist Kiyoe Yoshioka and can be heard throughout the newly released video. The anime will premiere on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation programming block as well as on TV Asahi’s affiliate channels.
Kaito Ishikawa (Haikyuu!!’s Tobio Kageyama, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai’s Sakuta Azusagawa) will star as Nagi Umino, with Akari Kitō (Demon Slayer’s Nezuko, Tonikaku Kawaii’s Tsukasa Yuzaki) and Nao Tōyama (Nisekoi’s Chitoge Kirisaki, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU’s Yui Yuigahama voicing Erika Amano and Hiro Segawa, respectively. Ryohei Kimura, Yōko Hikasa, Toshiyuki Morikawa, and Yukiko Aruga round out the newly announced cast members.
Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP will animate the series, with Hiroaki Akagi (Teasing Master Takagi-san, Combatants Will Be Dispatched!) serving as chief director and Yoshiyuki Shirahata (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater) directing. Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Digimon Adventure tri: Loss) will serve as scriptwriter, with character designs by Aya Takano (Himouto! Umaru-chan, Teasing Master Takagi-san).
Miki Yoshikawa’s A Couple of Cuckoos began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in January 2020. The series has amassed 10 volumes throughout its run so far. Yoshikawa is best known for her Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches manga series, which ran in Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 2012-2017. The series inspired an 8-episode television drama in 2013, followed by a 12-episode anime adaptation animated by Liden Films in 2015.
Kodansha USA digitally publishes the manga series in English, having released the fifth volume in August 2021. Crunchyroll will stream the series outside of Japan as it airs.
