Sony has been largely quiet in regards to the status of the PlayStation 5. There are rumors galore about what gamers can expect, though little is confirmed from Sony itself. While Microsoft has been rather transparent with Project Scorpio, giving insights to the community as often as it can, gamers are becoming more and more curious by the day about what to expect from the highly-anticipated PS5. There are countless features we want, but for now, let's outline six of the best - and all within reason - that we want from Sony's PlayStation 5.

6 Backwards Compatibility

With a library spanning over twenty years, Sony has developed a plethora of amazing games since the original one in 1994 (yes, it's that old!) That being said, the dream of backwards compatibility is more than just a request for nostalgia-seekers; gamers often have a backlog spanning multiple generations of gaming, beyond just the current gen. How often has someone asked their friend if they played the original Crash Bandicoot, only for them to say that they never had an original PlayStation?

This doesn't seem like a hard ask. Microsoft is already doing this, constantly adding new games to the backwards compatibility list for the Xbox One, for both 360 and Xbox games. Project Scorpio is even planning to do the same.

Plus, this gives life to older games from the PS1-3, giving ample reason to revisit past titles. The Sony PlayStation classic couldn't do it, but maybe backwards compatibility can.

5 Improved Graphics

Spider-Man

It's hard to argue that for most PS4 games that the graphics are bad. Every iteration of PlayStation consoles brings massive improvements to graphics and visuals, and many gamers are hoping for the same for the PS5.

This would entail 4K resolution being a minimum. Many gamers already have 4K TVs as they're becoming the norm now, so there's no real reason for the PlayStation 5 to stick to current-generation graphics as a minimum. Of course, 4K would be the entry point, with 8K being the goal.

It has already been confirmed that the upcoming console will contain an AMD chip that is based on the third-generation Ryzen. It will contain eight cores of the seven-nanometer Zen 2 microchip, allowing it to support up to 8K resolution, and will be compatible with PS VR kits.

4 Faster Installs and Downloads

Remember when you could just put a game into your console, hear that sweet loading screen noise, then play your game? Many gamers miss those days, and the PS5 has the potential to bring them back.

This goes beyond downloading games from the PlayStation Store. Installing a game from a disk and then downloading required updates takes far too long, and really kills a lot of the momentum when playing a new game - especially when the game has been on preorder for months and gamers are counting down the seconds to play it. Sometimes game updates download in minutes, sometimes hours. It can be dependent on internet speeds, though sometimes 30gb+ downloads are just absurd.

3 Faster and Fewer Loading Screens

People are becoming used to not having to wait for things anymore - games included. It's already known that the PS5 will use a solid state drive (SSD) instead of the traditional hard drive. This, by default, will improve the rendering and load sequences of games. It's too early to tell if this will be applicable for all games, but either way, the PS5 desperately needs a speed boost.

As for what's confirmed already, Mark Cerny of Forbes has mentioned that Spider-Man for PS4's massive open-world was able to load in less than one second, as opposed to the usual 15 on the PS4 Pro. Let's hope that this demonstrates the power of all PS5 games.

2 More Internal Storage

Games take up a lot of room. Even physical disks require installation, updates, and downloads, and this all leads up to a hefty amount of room being taken up on a console. As sound and graphics become increasingly complex, it's safe to assume that storage needs will increase as well. Measuring PlayStation storage in gigabytes will hopefully be a thing of the past, as at this rate, consoles will need 1TB minimum. How this factors into the already-confirmed SSDs is yet to be seen.

1 Better Customization

Gaming is more than a hobby for many people. It's a way to connect friends through similar hobbies and passions, to meet new people through online play, and to destress from busy lives. That being said, having a more customized experience and console would be a welcome feature, as turning a console from a tool and device into more of an experience. This can range being able to personalize hubs and UIs, to improved folders and sharing capabilities.

These are only six features that would make the next-gen PlayStation rock, and there are plenty more that could be added to the list. What would you like to see for the PlayStation 5? Sound off!
