Now that a Dead Space remake has been officially announced, it's only a matter of time until fans get to jump back into Isaac Clarke's boots. Of course, it will indeed be a bit of time until anyone actually gets to play the next installment in the franchise: Electronic Arts said that this new Dead Space is coming to both the Xbox Series X and PS5, but it won't be for a year or more. The good news is that there is a way to kill some time until it finally arrives. While EA has a game on its hands that re-defined a genre, there are others that can bring about a similar gameplay experience.

Dead Space was as beloved as it was because it offered some really good fights, an interesting science fiction setting, and some legit scares. Some of it was just off the wall, bonkers kind of gameplay. The formula led to not just one Dead Space game, but three. However, it's been a long, long time since anyone has been able to get their hands on new content in the series. Dead Space 3 was released in February of 2013. Until users really are able to play another title in the universe, there are some games that stand out from the pack that will help capture a similar vibe when playing through them.

Alice: The Madness Returns Has Similar Action To Dead Space

alice the madness returns

Alice: The Madness Returns is actually the sequel to American McGee's Alice, but in a lot of ways, it outdoes its predecessor. The Victorian-era Alice: The Madness Returns might not seem like one that would be a particularly good match with Dead Space, but this game manages to do it. Like the science-fiction-based Dead Space, this game offers a unique combination of psychological horror, action, adventure, and puzzle-solving.

Because the protagonist is going inside a world created in her own mind, there's no limit to the kind of craziness that can ensue at any given time. The game manages to be plenty spooky, to the point where playing it in the dark when someone is home alone is going to bring plenty of frights.

The Evil Within Offers Chills And Thrills Similar To Dead Space

The Evil within A Long Scary Hall

Like Alice: The Madness Returns, The Evil Within doesn't offer a one-to-one comparison to Dead Space. The setting here isn't in space and doesn't involve fighting space mutants. However, the baseline feel and atmosphere of The Evil Within is going to give fans of the EA series plenty of chills and thrills as if they were indeed playing the science-fiction-based shooter. The Evil Within is a third-person based survival horror game, though players aren't going to be blasting away in this title.

Instead, users have to find creative ways to sneak around the hordes of creeps and monsters they'll encounter, as well as find a way to take down the big bosses without an insane amount of ammo at their disposal. This game has the protagonist largely being the hunted, instead of the hunter. There's still enough of the atmospheric approach to the title that those who are Dead Space aficionados will definitely get the same kind of vibe from this title.

BioShock Is Dead Space Underwater

BioShock 4 Reveal Importance

If users have ever found themselves wondering what Dead Space would be like if it was basically the same kind of game, but an entirely different setting, then they probably had BioShock in mind. There are more similarities between the two titles than setting, too. BioShock is the game that kicked off a rather popular series that then sat idle for several years. However, just like Dead Space, the fans' love for the franchise appears to have finally convinced some developers to release another installment in the BioShock universe.

While the protagonist of this game isn't wearing a rather high-tech suit, there are characters in the original BioShock that do even look a bit like they are donning space outfits. There's certainly a deep science-fiction base with this game, and there's also plenty of dread and scares to check off that box for those looking for something similar to Dead Space. There's even a bit of "returning to the scene of the crime" in this series with BioShock 2, but if users really want to get that sort of first glance at this world, they need to play the first in this franchise.

Prey Could Be A Dead Space Offshoot

The player in Prey - Craziest Alternate History In Games

There are actually quite a few games that are going to give users the same kind of vibe as Dead Space, without actually being set in space. Then there's Prey, which has the same kind of vibe of players fighting creatures on a horrifying space station, and even has the protagonist wearing a futuristic spacesuit. It really does feel that if this game isn't supposed to be a direct continuation of the Dead Space series, it could certainly be an offshoot.

The one big difference here is that the monsters the protagonist fights are a bit more straightforward in that they are aliens, rather than some sort of mutated bunch of creatures. Prey does have plenty of creeping scenes and settings that will have users on the edge of their seat during the playthrough. There's the added bonus that this game was released relatively recently, and also just got an Xbox Series X visual boost.

Metro 2033 Is Like A Russian Dead Space

Yet another game that has a lot of the same kind of feel of Dead Space without actually being set in space is Metro 2033. The game has players roaming around a Russian countryside after a nuclear disaster had seemingly left it nothing more than wasteland. The last group of surviving humans will have to skulk around some rather dark areas in order to take down mutated creatures of all shapes and sizes. This game too, recently got a couple of different visual upgrades that make Metro 2033 look even better than it did when it was first released. It's also got some thrills and chills that can remind users of what they went through when they played the Dead Space games.

Dead Space is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
