Rumors of Nintendo releasing a more powerful version of the Switch have been circulating for just about as long as the Switch has been out. It seems like just about every few months since launch rumors of a Switch Pro seem to leak out into the internet. Now, however, an analyst is predicting that a 4K Switch will release at some point this year.

Serkan Toto, the analyst that correctly predicted the Switch Lite, stated, "There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Nintendo will launch a 'Switch Pro' in 2020". Toto believes that the console will support 4K resolutions, have bigger cartridge sizes, and feature beefed-up components, with a potential release taking place "after the summer holidays" and with a price tag of about $399. In the past, rumors of a "Switch 2" also shared the $399 price point, though that leak gave a release window of January 2021.

On one hand, Toto's accurate prediction of the Nintendo Switch Lite does give him more authority. That being said, there are some holes in his vision of the Switch Pro. Specifically, the larger cartridge size. It would be a strange move for Nintendo to do a mid-generation swap of cartridge sizes, as it would mean no previous Switch consoles would be able to play games from a "Pro" console. Historically, Nintendo has ensured that even budget handheld options still run the games that the more expensive ones do. One of the best things about the Switch Lite is its ability to play any Switch game, and it would be odd for Nintendo to forfeit that.

Nintendo hasn't been that concerned with how good its games look since the Wii era. Rather, the company has focused on how fun its games are to play, putting it in its own little playing field versus the arms race that Xbox and PlayStation regular take part in. A Switch Pro isn't impossible, but it doesn't seem very "Nintendo." That being said, it is something fans want, just like the Switch Lite, and Toto has been right before.

Only time will really tell if the Switch Pro is real. There are plenty of rumors that share similar information, but it's best to take all that with a grain of salt. Of course, there are reasons to buy a Switch Lite, so there will certainly be reasons for some fans to buy a Switch Pro, too. Fans will just have to wait and see.
