After a tweet goes viral for using feral hogs to explain why some feel the need to own assault rifles, gamers have weighed in by creating their own funny memes. Playable games and scenarios in popular shooters have all been created to make fun of the Twitter reply.

What Does 30-50 Feral Hogs Mean?

The United States of America lost countless innocent lives last week in mass shootings. The domestic terrorist attacks have led to more discussions about gun violence in the country and how to stop acts like this from happening again. Musician Jason Isbell criticized those who were on Twitter arguing the definition of an "assault weapon" and said that people know what an assault weapon is and that they "don't need one."

Twitter user William McNabb offered an explanation as to why people may need an assault weapon, as rural Americans may ask "How do I kill the 30-50 feral hogs that run into my yard within 3-5 mins while my small kids play?" Feral hogs are a problem in rural America, causing more than $1 billion in damages a year. However gamekeepers said that it is highly unlikely that such a large group of hogs would attack at one time or that someone would be able to take them all down with an assault weapon in under five minutes.

Gamers have strong opinions about mass shootings and gun violence, with government officials having tried to use violent games as a scapegoat for what many see as a larger problem about access to guns and hate crimes. So, while some made jokes about how 30-50 feral hogs would make a great barbeque, other gamers chose to make memes.

The Funniest 30-50 Feral Hogs Memes

Games journalist Andy Kelly chose to test out McNabb's idea. In a video shared from a game, that seems to be Far Cry 3, Kelly tries to slay a horde of hogs with an assault rifle but quickly gets into trouble. As the hogs start to charge, Kelly tries to fire into the group but only manages to take out a few before they get to him.

Another journalist, Matt Elliott, tries to attack hogs with ballistics in one of the Total War games. It's a good effort, but Elliot says that the hogs are "walking it every time" and in a video, viewers can see that the ballistics soar over the heads of the hogs and don't take out one. The men quickly yell "withdraw" as they're attacked.

Designer John Arnstrom also suggested that McNabb tries to take out feral hogs using birds and a slingshot. The tweet used a screenshot from Rovio's hugely popular mobile game Angry Birds and explained that McNabb shouldn't try to use an assault rifle to get the piggies because it will destroy his iPhone.

One developer, called Bookska, has created a 30-50 feral hogs game. The game, which was made in less than a day, stars a man with an assault rifle trying to shoot at hogs to protect his children. It uses the WASD and Spacebar keys, but it takes more than five minutes of practice to get good at it. 30-50 Feral Hogs by Bookska can be played here.
