Atlus drops an all-new trailer for 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim ahead of its western release, showcasing the major events that kick off the game's story. This latest glimpse at the title also coincides with the opening of pre-orders on the PlayStation Store, which comes with an exclusive artbook at launch for those purchasing early.

Set in a fictionalized 1980s, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim follows thirteen protagonists during a hostile alien invasion. The aptly named 'Doomsday' trailer provides an overview of the early parts of the war and how humanity hopes to confront the invaders and hostile kaiju -- with giant mechas, of course. Since the game will include 13 intertwining stories, the narrative in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim could get a tad overwhelming, but trailers like this one have helped prepare curious gamers to understand what they're getting into.

In that respect, it is an ambitious title, especially since it also is a cross-genre game that splits between adventure side-scrolling segments and real-time strategy portions. In the end, however, the efforts of developer Vanillaware have paid off and the title has gotten extremely positive reviews in Japan after it was released last year. Even Super Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, recommended 13 Sentinels to audiences through a column he wrote for Famitsu magazine earlier this year. It is yet to be seen if the game will be as well-received in the west.

If that solid recommendation is enough to pique interest, the release for the title is only a month away, but it was supposed to be a smidge sooner. There was a small delay for 13 Sentinels by two weeks to add English voice-overs. The VO's won't be included on the disc for the physical version of the title, but there will be a day-one patch that adds them in.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim will release worldwide on September 22nd, 2020 exclusively for PS4.
