DJ Hero 2 has the challenge of fighting its way out of the shadow of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3, and many view it as an annoying little brother. To combat this, Activision has released DJ Hero 2’s full setlist and a behind the scenes video that will force detractors to rethink their opinions.

“When the party starts on October 19, budding beat chemists, singing sensations and all of their friends will experience over 100 of the biggest tracks from the hottest artists, remixed exclusively for DJ Hero 2, including Eminem’s “Not Afraid,” Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” David Guetta’s “Memories” feat. Kid Cudi, Lil’ Wayne’s “Lollipop” feat. Static Major, and Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden’s “Bonkers,”. Cranking up the soundtrack to “the most innovative and immersive music experience of 2009,” the full list of 105 speaker-blaring tracks and club-shaking anthems that will be transformed into over 80 unique mixes for DJ Hero 2 reads like a who’s who of music industry giants.”

Considering the recent announcement of the Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock setlist and the clever way Harmonix revealed Rock Band 3’s setlist, Activision chose the perfect time to show gamers what DJ Hero 2 is made of.

The setlist is filled with recent hits, but doesn’t forget its roots either. I can’t wait to hop on tracks such as Superstition by Stevie Wonder and the remix of Tupac's "California Love". However, not all the songs exactly fit. What the heck is Metallica doing in a DJ Hero game?

Nevertheless, the soundtrack is great, yet Activision says the game really shines when it comes to remixes. FreeStyleGames worked with famous DJs and music producers such as Deadmau5, David Guetta, DJ Qbert and Tiesto to improve quality and add authenticity to the franchise.

“If you simply listened to all these songs we’ve handpicked to include in the game, you would recognize what an amazing soundtrack they would make,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs, Activision.  “But when you hear them after the FreeStyleGames DJs give them the exclusive DJ Hero mix treatment, you understand why we think DJ Hero 2 offers an unprecedented music experience.”

Activision has also announced several new game modes and features such as DJ battles, jump-in/jump-out party play, the ability to pick up a microphone and sing/rap along with the beat, and the career-based Empire Mode. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, check out the behind the scenes video below.

When DJ Hero 2's release date was announced, I was on the fence, but now I’m completely sold. DJ Hero 2 can't come fast enough. Not everyone enjoys rock music and DJ Hero 2 seems like the perfect fit for fans of hip-hop, dance and pop music. It appears to be a refreshing music game that breaks away from the staleness of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and makes the rhythm genre fun again.

Come October, will you be tearing up the turntable in DJ Hero 2? Does the setlist make you want to dance?

DJ Hero 2 will be released on October 15 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
