Over the weekend, news circulated that Sony was sending out a $10 PSN credit for free to PlayStation Network subscribers, leading to excitement among fans. However, for those still waiting for their own $10 PSN credit, it turns out it may never come, as it appears it was only for a select few, if a new poll is any indicator.

A PushSquare poll with 6,000 respondents found that only 4% had received the PlayStation Network credit, indicating that not all subscribers were entitled to it. While this is disappointing, it isn't the first time that Sony has offered free gifts to select subscribers. Back in August 2019, Sony gave away the PSVR game Astro Bot Rescue Mission for free to some PSN users.

It isn't clear what methodology Sony used in selecting which PlayStation Plus subscribers would receive the credit, though it's possible recipients were selected at random. There is also the possibility that the credit isn't finished yet, and is instead rolling out in waves, but Sony hasn't confirmed whether or not that's the case.

It does make sense that only a select few members would receive the coupon, though. PS4 sales have surpassed the 110 million units sold mark, so giving the credit to everyone that purchased a PlayStation 4 would cost Sony a pretty penny.  Hopefully, those that received the PSN credit or Astro Bot Rescue Mission are excluded from other giveaways until all users receive something, which does seem like a fair way to go.

Sony isn't alone in dishing out free credit to its users. Epic Games Store is also giving away $10 coupons to users, which can be applied to games that cost more than $15. It's an effective way to draw more users to the platform, and considering how aggressively Epic is challenging Steam's claim to the PC storefront throne, it very well may pay off.

It's unfortunate that everyone isn't getting the credit, but it's still a nice perk for those that were lucky enough to land it. There are summer sales running on multiple platforms and storefronts right now, including the PlayStation Summer Sale, so any type of discount is sure to be appreciated by fans.
