Remnant: From The Ashes is a phenomenal action-based horror game that some fans have described as a post-apocalyptic Dark Souls with guns. Players are tasked with taking down monstrous creatures born from the Root using a variety of weapons.

It’s a tough game and requires dedicated and patient players to twist their way through the story to the game’s final brutal moments. While any expert can beat this game with any weapon, there are a number of weapons that are relatively easier to obtain and make things a lot easier.

Updated on January 25th, 2022 by Russ Boswell: Those looking for a Dark Souls-like fix before Elden Ring drops in February could definitely give Remnant: From the Ashes a look. The impressive indie release shares a lot of similarities with the series, giving players access to powerful weapons, interesting "classes," and difficult boss fights. But what are Remnant's Best Weapons, and how can players get their hands on them? To better showcase the best weapons in Remnant: From the Ashes, the following list has been updated and now includes even more entries and options for players looking for some serious firepower to use against their many enemies.

13 World Breaker

Remnant-From-The-Ashes-World-Breaker-Swing-In-Action-GameRant
  • Damage: 68 - 204
  • RPS – N/A
  • Ideal Range – Melee Range
  • Magazine – N/A
  • Max Ammo – N/A
  • Critical Hit Chance – 5%
  • Force Burst - Charged attacks cause an AOE explosion that push foes back, damage, and stagger them.

Many of the weapons on this list are capable of doing impressive damage to bosses, are fast, and pack quite the punch. Comparatively, the World Breaker isn't anything special, with lower damage values and an agonizingly slow attack rate.

When it comes to bosses, there are many better weapons to use but the World Breaker is still very capable of trashing lower-tier mobs. In fact, it's one of the better weapons available for clearing hordes of enemies and keeping them at bay. This is because it comes equipped with a specialized charge attack that releases an explosive AOE attack that will damage enemies and push them back. A few swings from this hammer (especially when upgraded) and many mobs will turn to dust.

How To Obtain

Players will need to get their hands on a Stone of the Guardian to craft a World Breaker. This particular drop can be grabbed from the Claviger boss (located in Rhom, Loom of the Black Sun) after allowing the boss to absorb one mob/add and then defeating it. After getting the Stone of the Guardian, players can combine it with seven Lumenite Crystals and 650 Scraps to create the World Breaker.

12 Riven

Remnant-From-The-Ashes-Riven-Equipped-Gamerant
  • Damage: 37 - 111
  • RPS – N/A
  • Ideal Range – Melee Range
  • Magazine – N/A
  • Max Ammo – N/A
  • Critical Hit Chance – 15%
  • Life Leech - Transfers some of the damage dealt to enemies into health for the player.

There aren't many opportunities to heal in Remnant: From the Ashes. Like the Dark Souls-esque games it is inspired by, Remnant forces players to take the least amount of damage possible when traversing areas and fighting bosses. This is why Riven is such a useful weapon.

Those that get their hands on the scythe will have a fast melee weapon that will heal the player back for a portion of the damage they deal. It may not hit as hard as other melee weapons in the game, but its vampiric properties can help keep players alive during particularly lengthy boss battles or after mistakes are made during combat against smaller foes. Riven is a great way to have a little extra healing for those that are struggling to stay alive.

How To Obtain

The only downside to Riven is that obtaining it will keep players from obtaining the Kingslayer Trait. To snag this weapon, players will need to accept the Undying King's offer and obtain the Guardian's Heart from the boss Ixillis (located in The Grotto of the world Corsus). Once they return the heart to the Undying King he will reward them with the weapon.

11 Particle Accelerator

RFTA Particle Accelerator
  • Damage: 70 - 210
  • RPS – 1.45
  • Ideal Range – 30 meters
  • Magazine – 5
  • Max Ammo – 40
  • Critical Hit Chance – 15%
  • Gravity Core Mod – Launches a projectile that deals 50 damage and opens a gravity well. After five seconds the well explodes dealing 500 damage. Add 300 damage per enemy divided by total damage dealt to all enemies.

This long gun utilizes Black Sun Dust to fire powerful rounds into the enemy from a distance with a 4X scope. Staying away from bosses is almost always a good strategy and this weapon ensures you remain dangerous at a distance.

Its biggest perk is the Gravity Core mod that deals 50 damage and spawns a black hole that drags enemies to the center for a few seconds. After that time the black hole will explode dealing massive damage to those caught in its center. It's a great weapon for bosses and groups which is why it makes the list.

How To Obtain

This weapon is craftable only after defeating Claviger in Rhom. To qualify he must be defeated before he’s able to absorb any of his minions by smashing the ground. The trick is to kill the minions before he can get to them and defeat him quickly. Once he’s defeated the Void Sliver will drop which is needed to craft the Particle Accelerator.

10 Devastator

RFTA Devastator
  • Damage: 32 – 96
  • RPS – 1.5
  • Ideal Range – 20 meters
  • Magazine – 1
  • Max Ammo – 30
  • Critical Hit Chance – 10%
  • Skewer Mod – Launches a large spike that will deal 125 damage, 300% added stagger damage, and causes Bleeding. The Bleed will deal 600 damage over 20 seconds.

The Devastator is another strong weapon that fires spikes at the enemy. While the weapon must be reloaded after each shot it does deal 32 damage and its special ability is great when fighting bosses or spongy enemies.

The Skewer mod enables the wielder to fire a massive spike at opponents dealing 125 damage with a good chance of causing stagger and bleeding over time. It’s great for taking out a chunk of the enemy's health and then watching them bleed out as you keep your distance and avoid attacks.

How To Obtain

This weapon can be crafted after defeating The Unclean One lurking on Corsus. He drops the Unclean Heart which is a component in crafting the Devastator. There are no special requirements for defeating him, so the player should pursue whatever strategy they feel best.

9 Shotgun

RFTA Shotgun
  • Damage: 130 – 390
  • RPS – 1.1
  • Ideal Range – 7.5 meters
  • Magazine – 7
  • Max Ammo – 28
  • Critical Hit Chance – 5%

The staple of any horror game, the shotgun makes an appearance in Remnant: From The Ashes and serves as one of the best weapons in the game. It deals 130 damage at mid to close range and can fire off five blasts before needing to be reloaded.

The reload time is a little obnoxious and the fire rate isn’t great, but with a large spread and strong damage, it hardly matters in most fights. It can also be custom fitted with a weapon mod giving it versatility.

How To Obtain

There are two ways to get this weapon and both are fairly simple. The first is to start the game as a Scrapper where Ace will give the weapon automatically. The other is to buy one from Rigs for 600 Scrap.

8 Coach Gun

RFTA Coach Gun
  • Damage: 102 – 306
  • RPS – 2.5
  • Ideal Range – 9 meters
  • Magazine – 2
  • Max Ammo – 30
  • Critical Hit Chance – 5%

The coach gun is very similar to the shotgun, but with some noticeable differences. Its damage is lower at 102, the gun must be reloaded after two shots and it holds a total of 26 ammo. But the reason it ranks higher than the shotgun is that it can be fired faster and reloaded sooner meaning it has better DPS over time.

It also has a smaller spread, which can be a boon if you have a good aim or a bad thing if your aim is terrible. This is good for players who use hit-and-run kiting tactics which is what you should be learning to do if you plan on surviving long-term in this game.

How To Obtain

The Coach Gun can be obtained really easily through one of two methods. The most straightforward is to start the game as an Ex-Cultist and Ace will give it to the player. The other way is to buy one off of Rigs for 600 Scrap.

7 Repulsor

RFTA Repulsor
  • Damage: 100 – 300
  • RPS – 1.8
  • Ideal Range – 8 meters
  • Magazine – 5
  • Max Ammo – 30
  • Critical Hit Chance – 5%
  • Banish Mod – Launch a projectile that will phase enemies out of existence for four seconds. When they come back they’ll have taken 1.25x of the Repulsor’s damage for eight seconds. Stronger enemies are immune to being sent away but take increased damage regardless.

Crafted from the Root itself, this weapon is very alien in nature and serves the player as a great weapon. It has the same range as the coach gun and deals 100 damage. It can fire five shots before reloading and has a decent ammo capacity of 30.

Where this gun really shines is the Banish mod built into the weapon. This special ability banishes targets to another dimension for several seconds. When they come back they receive 1.5 times the standard damage for 10 seconds. This is great for thinning the herd in groups or for removing problematic foes during boss fights.

How To Obtain

This weapon is a bit difficult to obtain as it requires defeating the Dreamer, the final boss of the game. Once defeated, he’ll drop the Dreamer’s Mana which can be used to craft the Repulsor.

6 Hive Cannon

Remnant-From-The-Ashes-Hive-Cannon-Explosion-Gamerant-1
  • Damage: 57 - 171
  • RPS – 1.8
  • Ideal Range – 16 meters
  • Magazine – 5
  • Max Ammo – 25
  • Critical Hit Chance – 5%
  • Hive Shot - Shoots an exploding projectile that does 20 damage and releases a cloud of deadly insects that cover a 2.5m range. Can also grant corrosive stacks (up to 3).

There are a lot of seemingly inconspicuous weapons that deal a hefty amount of damage in Remnant: From the Ashes. The Hive Cannon is far from a "normal-looking handgun," but it's "basic" enough that many players may overlook it. This is a mistake, as an upgraded Hive Cannon can be downright devastating at taking down groups of enemies. Those that commit to this corrosive firearm won't have any trouble fighting through the hordes of small enemies that try to claim them throughout the game's many locations.

Consuming handgun ammo, this powerful pistol shoots painful projectiles and has a grenade-like alternate fire that will explode upon impact and release a cloud of deadly, stinging insects. The 2m radius is large enough to harass hordes of enemies and the weapon also grants corrosive stacks (up to three).

How To Obtain

Players that want to snag the Hive Cannon will need to first defeat the world boss Ixillis (after letting it become enraged), which is located within The Grotto of Corsus. Once the boss has been defeated, players can then craft the weapon by combining a single Hivestone with seven Lumenite Crystals.

5 Ruin

RFTA Ruin
  • Damage: 19 – 57
  • RPS – 6
  • Ideal Range – 22 meters
  • Magazine – 30
  • Max Ammo – 150
  • Critical Hit Chance – 10%
  • Undying Mod – If charged when the player dies, they’ll be immediately revived with 50% health, have 10% damage reduction, and be immune to status effects for five seconds.

This weapon is honestly less about damage and more about survivability. It deals 19 damage, has a great fire rate, can pop off 30 shots before reload, and with a total of 150 ammo you can do some decent damage from a distance with the 3X scope.

The real benefit to this weapon is the special ability from the Undying mod. When fully charged the user can be revived from death with 33% of their health. They also come back with damage reduction and immunity to status effects for a few seconds. It’s great for those bosses that manage to surprise you with devastating attacks.

How To Obtain

To get the Ruin players must first defeat the Undying King in Rhom. After he’s defeated, the Undying King will drop the Undying Heart which can be used to craft this weapon.

4 Sniper Rifle

RFTA Sniper Rifle
  • Damage: 135 – 375
  • RPS – 1.7
  • Ideal Range – 35 meters
  • Magazine – 1
  • Max Ammo – 27
  • Critical Hit Chance – 20%

This weapon is the best long-range weapon hands down, but it doesn’t rank higher because you’ll need to switch to something else in close-range fights or when the enemy finally chases you down.

It deals an impressive 135 damage and must be reloaded every shot. If the 10% critical hit chance kicks in then most weaker enemies will go down in one or two hits which is great for ammo conservation. In boss fights, you’ll want to either kite the enemy or have a friend draw aggro.

How To Obtain

This weapon can be obtained rather early on. It’s found in the basement of the Church of the Root Mother on Earth. Simply go through the main doors, head left down the hallway, descend the stairs at the end, and find the weapon hiding behind some wooden pallets.

3 Beam Rifle

RFTA Beam Rifle
  • Damage: 20 – 60
  • RPS – 4
  • Ideal Range – 15 meters
  • Magazine – 50
  • Max Ammo – 200
  • Critical Hit Chance – 5%

This weapon is the result of mixing arcane forces with modern technology and makes for a great weapon when fighting the unholy Root spawn. It deals 24 damage and the high fire rate will chew through the 30 rounds in your magazine pretty quick. But with 180 ammo it’ll serve you for a while.

For such a rapid-fire weapon it has a surprising range of 20 meters. With this weapon, you can carve enemies with a powerful beam that deals radiation damage. The longer you hold the trigger the more damage is dealt, just keep an eye out for overheating or you’ll have to wait for it to cool down.

How To Obtain

This weapon can be a bit tricky to obtain as it requires completing the random event The Lost Ghantry on Rhom. The player will come across a fog wall in front of a large area. In that room is a console that once activated the player is attacked by multiple enemies. If they survive the encounter the Beam Rifle will be accessible.

2 Sporebloom

RFTA Sporebloom
  • Damage: 200 – 600
  • RPS – 3.5
  • Ideal Range – 10 meters
  • Magazine – 1
  • Max Ammo – 21
  • Critical Hit Chance – 5%

This weapon is a beast at close range dealing 160 damage with its explosive blast. Sure you’ll have to reload each shot, but you can’t beat the raw single-shot DPS and it’s a lot of fun to use.

Another strong incentive to use this weapon is the Sport Shot mod that comes built-in. This fires an explosive bullet that deals 50 rot damage on impact with an AOE for 2.6 meters. After the explosion, a noxious cloud will hover in the area for several seconds poisoning any enemies trapped inside.

How To Obtain

This weapon can be obtained early on Earth. The player must defeat The Ent who will drop the Spore Gland. The Spore Gland can be used to craft the Sporebloom.

1 Assault Rifle

RFTA Assault Rifle
  • Damage: 19.5 – 45
  • RPS – 7.3
  • Ideal Range – 18 meters
  • Magazine – 28
  • Max Ammo – 196
  • Critical Hit Chance – 5%

With the number of enemies you’ll be facing, the variety of boss tactics and situations, the best weapon in the game is the assault rifle because it’s the most diverse. It's good at mid to long ranges with some decent stopping power at close range means you aren’t likely to switch to another weapon for any reason.

It deals 19.5 damage at full auto for 24 shots, with a 168 ammo capacity you can use this weapon for quite a while. Fully upgraded this will cut through enemies like butter at mid-range and serves the player for most of the game in most situations.

How To Obtain

This weapon is obtained through a random event called Supply Run that appears in the Sorrow’s Field Dungeon on Earth. The player faces a number of enemies in this dungeon before encountering the Monkey Key. This is used to open a door that has the picture of a monkey drawn on it. Behind this door is a room containing the Spirit Trait and the Assault Rifle.
