Many consider the Nintendo 64's Goldeneye to be one of the best games ever made, as well as a game that radically paved the way for first-person shooters on consoles. Activision knows that there's a nostalgic soft spot in the hearts of gamers for the classic game, so they created GoldenEye 007, a revamped version of the original for the Wii, and eventually ported it to Xbox 360 and PS3. The game must have sold reasonably well too, because today Activision has announced that they plan on continuing the '007' series with 007 Legends.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, Activision will be releasing 007 Legends later this Fall. The game will be unlike any Bond game before it, because it'll feature a whopping six movie spread within the confines of the game disc. Gamers will be able to play missions and relive moments from five Bond films. So far, the upcoming Skyfall is the only movie confirmed for 007 Legends, but Activision assures fans that they will be treated to "the smartest and most treacherous Bond game yet." Since Skyfall is officially one of the narratives in the game, it's safe to say that the standalone Skyfall game has been shelved in favor of Legends.

“Creating a video game storyline that ties together six popular, yet very different, Bond movie narratives can be challenging, but together with EON Productions, our developer Eurocom, has pulled it off to create an homage that we think will be a unique and highly entertaining Bond video game.”

So far Activision has confirmed the “return of fan-favorite single-player Mi6 Ops Missions,” which first made their debut in last year's GoldenEye 007: Reloaded. The new game will also allow players to take on the role of several infamous villains and allies that appeared in the films. Of course, the man with a license to kill will still be the main focus as a playable character throughout 007 Legends.

Unlike GoldenEye, gamers won't be waiting for 007 Legends to be ported to the PS3 or 360. Instead, it'll bypass that whole time-consuming process by simply launching on those systems. The game still isn't confirmed for the Wii U, but that may change after that cat is out of the bag at E3 2012.

007 Legends will be infiltrating Xbox 360 and PS3 this Fall.
