Enders Project Concept 1

Hideo Kojima might be most revered for his multi-generation spanning series Metal Gear Solid, but for the past several years, a different sequel has been on gamer's minds - the follow-up to the well received Zone of the Enders games on the PlayStation 2. At the end of a recent preview event for the Zone of the Enders HD Collection, Kojima Productions confirmed that work a new entry in the series is officially underway.

Whether it has been through tweets, meetings, or huge conferences, Kojima and his team have made it very clear that they have been dying to return to the mech combat scene for years. Considering Kojima's notoriety concerning the the fact that each and every Metal Gear Solid game was supposed to be the last, his enthusiasm for wanting to make a new Zone of the Enders was enough to convince most everyone that a new game in the franchise would eventually make an appearance.

The project is currently being called Enders Project, and will run on Kojima Production's new Fox Engine. Andriasang relayed a report from Famitsu that the staff is currently building real models of the Orbital Frames (mechs) in order to convert them to Fox Engine assets later on. According to a Twitter user who attended the event, the game will be set in a ancient civilization, rather than a futuristic setting. We have included some of the pictures of the first concept art taken during the event. Hopefully officially screens will be released soon.

The game is still in the "experimental and prototyping" stages, so do not expect to see any sign of gameplay in the near future. Ryosuke Toriyama will be serving as the primary producer on the title, and although Kojima will be a producer as well, he will remain focused on his other projects for the time being.

Although Enders Project might be the most exciting news from the event, the primary focus was on the HD Collection of the original PS2 Zone of the Enders titles. The collection will release on October 25, 2012, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
