Saying goodbye to any character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is always difficult. With OG alumni like Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johannson recently announcing the end of their Marvel tenure, fans have been left with a bittersweet feeling. While the new heroes and plans for Phase 4 may mean exciting times for the studio, it's hard to imagine the MCU without characters who fans have come to know so well over the past decade, like Iron Man and Black Widow. Now it appears Zendaya's future is also up in the air after Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Unfortunately, such departures are a reality of the business. Contracts end, stories change, and franchises move on. That's why Zendaya felt bittersweet filming Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the Emmy-winning actress telling E! News that she and her co-stars Tom Holland and Jacob Batalon don't know if they're going to make another Spidey film. "Normally you do three movies and that's pretty much it, so I think we just... we're all absorbing and taking time to enjoy the moment," she added.

At this point in time, Zendaya is unsure of her future at Marvel beyond No Way Home. The most recent agreement between Marvel and Sony involved a 75/25 split between the two studios, with one more Spider-Man appearance in a future MCU production. After that, it's unclear what will happen, especially since Spider-Man: No Way Home technically brings Holland's contract to completion. Should he no longer have any future projects with Marvel, it could mean that Zendaya and Batalon would likely have to make their MCU exit as well.

That said, if Holland had it his way, he'd love to keep the "dream team" alive for future Spider-Man sequels. Holland told Collider that Spider-Man: No Way Home would be his last one, but added that if they wanted him back, he'd "be there in a heartbeat." Zendaya seems to have similar sentiments as well, saying that she feels "very lucky" to be a part of a major legacy franchise.

Even if Spider-Man: No Way Home is, in fact, their last Marvel film, that doesn't mean that the two will be disappearing from our screens anytime soon. Both Zendaya and Holland are highly sought-after stars at the moment, so fans can expect to see them in other big productions in the near future.

In the meantime, fans can wait patiently for the Spider-Man: No Way Home's first official trailer, which should be dropping very soon. While there are many rumors regarding the involvement of the multiverse in the film, fans are eager to see if the trailer will confirm any of those theories.

Spider-Man: No Way Home debuts in theatres on December 17, 2021.
