Zelda Super Smash Bros for Wii U

As the Holidays wrap up and the preparation for New Year's Eve commences, Nintendo has decided to give Super Smash Bros. fans a last minute gift in the form of another character confirmation. Following up after the reveal of Rosalina and Luma as a team-based newcomer, it's now confirmed that yet another princess will be joining the fray, and that character is none other than the iconic Princess Zelda.

Hailing from the, you guessed it, The Legend of Zelda franchise, this marks the third time that Hyrule's heir to the throne has participated in Nintendo's crossover fighting game. According to Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Super Smash Bros., Zelda's inclusion was announced to coincide with the Japanese release of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo 3DS — a game that Game Rant enjoyed so much that we gave it a coveted 5/5.

The screenshots released alongside Zelda's unveil don't confirm too much about the regal combatant's move set, and more importantly whether or not it will remain relatively unchanged from past iterations. One shot in particular makes it appear as if she is commanding a soldier from The Legend 0f Zelda franchise, which would be a new offensive capability if it is indeed an attack and not just a well-timed photo of one of the many in-game Assist Trophies.

Another big question to derive from the screenshots is whether or not Zelda's alter-ego, Sheik, will again be playable. The alternate form for the princess has been present in every installment that Zelda has been in, which makes it odd to think that the character would miss out on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Perhaps the ninja-esque fighter will make her presence known in a future update.

What do you make of Zelda's reveal, Ranters? Which veteran do you think will be confirmed next?
