Everybody wants Nintendo to say something about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, while it's frankly amazing just how quiet Nintendo has been about the game since its announcement. It hasn't even told players about when they can expect the game to release. Considering this year is The Legend of Zelda's 35th anniversary, odds are good that it'll release this year, or at the very least provide some new information. However, that still means Breath of the Wild 2 could either be out in a few months or not until the end of the year. In a situation like this, some fans can't help but turn to leaks for information.

However, the record for Breath of the Wild 2 leaks so far prove that fans really shouldn't. Although there's been a couple alleged leaks recently, their credibility is questionable, so fans are probably still in the dark. Although it's hard to keep sitting and waiting for Nintendo to say something, the fact that information seems to be sealed up so tightly is actually a good thing. All this time, Nintendo has been diligently working on the game behind closed doors. The more work it's gotten done in quiet, the bigger and more surprising its eventual reveal is going to be.

Leaving the Rumors Behind

Speculation is a common source of comfort in situations like that of Breath of the Wild 2. Some speculation is pretty harmless, like coming up with original theories about the upcoming game based on content from the first Breath of the Wild or even Hyrule Warriors: Age of CalamityHowever, it's risky to speculate based on rumors. Nintendo hasn't had much to say about all the supposed rumors coming out about the game, which makes it seem like Nintendo is confident that its information is secure. Otherwise, it might be inclined to make some admission and release some additional information. Since not much of that has happened over the last year and a half, the rumors might be worth leaving behind.

The supposed leaks of recent history, too, should be taken with a pretty big grain of salt. For instance, one leaker recently shared a tweet of a document supposedly outlining all of Nintendo's major releases planned for 2021. Although the document has been thoroughly debunked by now, it speaks to the struggle of waiting for Nintendo's news, as even 'leakers' are desperate to generate content around the topic. That desperation, however, again proves that Breath of the Wild 2 is shockingly impenetrable. Fans should be excited about that. The sequel is filled to bursting with information, so the reveal for it is likely going to be tremendous.

The Upside of Silence

Nintendo is bound to come forward with reveals for this year's games soon, at least for The Legend of Zelda. Age of Calamity seemed like a teaser of a year filled with Zelda content. There's a lot for Nintendo to talk about in the near future, from the game's gameplay to the narrative to the particulars of the map, but by being so quiet, Nintendo has traded in a little bit of visibility for the element of surprise too. It knows that an upcoming Legend of Zelda game will never truly be out of fans' minds. Because of that, it can afford to put less time and energy into publicity in exchange for preparing content that's worth the wait.

Ironically, although fans may be wise to discard outlandish rumors, Breath of the Wild 2 could turn out a lot more outlandish than fans expect. Nintendo might have wanted such a prolonged silence to make sure it gets something bold and experimental just right. It's known to be meticulous, after all, and The Legend of Zelda is a franchise worth handling with care. All that means that fans will ultimately be rewarded for their patience. Nintendo hasn't done a direct sequel to a Zelda game in a little while, so Breath of the Wild 2 is a big deal. If it's anything like the first game, it'll be more than worth the wait.
