PSN users will have to wait a couple of months before they can "Go and save the city." It was announced today that X-Men Arcade - a port of the 1992 hit arcade game - will be exclusive to XBLA for two months, with a PSN version launching in February.

X-Men Arcade will arrive on XBLA next week on December 15th. No price has been announced, however it will probably hover between $10 and $15 dollars. Xbox owners will get to take the role of six X-Men: Cyclops, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Wolverine and Dazzler. The main bad guy will be Magneto, with Pyro, Blob, Mystique and others making up the ranks of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

This port will have some new features, including drop-in/out online and local co-op, and the ability to change the difficulty. The online co-op is a huge plus since it gives the true feel of being in an arcade and having a buddy - or a stranger -  show up and join in. Check the trailer below to see the port in action.

Timed exclusivity is nothing new. PSN users were able to play Scott Pilgrim vs. The World two weeks before it became available on XBLA. The GTA IV DLC became available on Xbox long before PlayStation 3 users were able to get them bundled as Episodes from Liberty City. Just today, the Costume Quest DLC Grubbins on Ice was released for Xbox 360, while PS3 owners will have to wait two weeks to get their hands on Double Fine's latest.

Does a timed exclusive of this game really benefit the Xbox 360? That's debatable. Maybe Microsoft is hoping X-Men Arcade will push some consoles, which is possible since it was one of more popular arcade games back in its day. In any case, exclusivity, timed or otherwise, is clearly a concept Microsoft is invested in.

Those of you who are too young to remember the original arcade classic will be glad to know that current games such as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Castle Crashers are very similar to X-Men Arcade. Those who enjoyed these titles will definitely enjoy it, since these games pay homage to arcade beat-'em ups of the 1990s. Given the sheer number of game references in Scott Pilgrim, there's probably an X-Men Arcade reference in there somewhere.

X-Men Arcade will spring into action on December 15th on XBLA, with the PSN version being released sometime in February 2011.
