Head of Xbox Phil Spencer takes to Twitter to boast about the slew of new IP coming to Xbox One next year, and confirms that some titles haven't even been announced yet.

In 2015, Microsoft claimed that they had the greatest lineup in Xbox history. Few could argue against that statement, with heavy hitters such as Forza Motorsport 6, Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and a slew of critically-acclaimed multi-platform all releasing for Xbox One last year. But with 2015 now coming to a close, it's time to look to the future, and while this year's lineup of Xbox One games mostly consisted of new entries in existing franchises, 2016 is all about new IP.

This is according to Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, who took to Twitter to discuss Xbox One's 2016 lineup.

"Lots of marketing lines for the different years but for new IP, 2016 is going to be a fun year for us."

There's already plenty of evidence to back up Spencer's statement, as Microsoft has shown off a number of new IP coming to the system. While not all of the new IP that the company has announced will necessarily drop next year, a decent number of them likely will.

Many of the new IP coming to Xbox One in 2016 will even be exclusive to the system. This includes titles such as Keiji Inafune's new project ReCore, the action/RPG hybrid Scalebound from Platinum Games, Remedy's time-bending shooter Quantum Break, and an online-focused title called Sea of Thieves from the talented people at Rare.

There's also a spattering of console exclusive new IP dropping on Xbox One and PC in 2016, mostly in the form of ID@Xbox games. These include Ashen, Below, Inside, and the classic cartoons throwback game Cuphead. These indie titles combined with the aforementioned high budget releases show that Phil Spencer isn't exaggerating when he boasts about the new IP coming to Xbox next year.

And keep in mind, these are just the games we know about. When asked on Twitter if there were Xbox games planned for 2016 that have yet to be announced, Spencer simply said, "Yes." As some may recall, a couple of 2015's biggest Xbox One games, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Rare Replay, weren't even announced until E3 2015, so there's likely a few surprises on the way for Xbox owners.

New IP is healthy for the industry, and it's good to see that there's plenty of it on the way for Xbox One as well as the other gaming systems. 2015 was particularly strong for the Xbox brand, and helped the Xbox be the best-selling console of October, but 2016 may be even more memorable if it gives birth to the next wave of classic gaming franchises.
