Rumoured Xbox 720 Information Leaked

Though it may not be for a few more months that we officially find out what Microsoft and Sony's vision of the next-gen will look like, that hasn't stopped reports from circulating which suggest what each console might be packing in terms of hardware. And while we have just heard from Sony that they are in no hurry to reveal their specs, but would rather wait to see what Microsoft has in store, we may have one of the most definitive rumors regarding Durango yet.

VG Leaks has the scoop and have revealed an extensive diagram detailing the make-up of the Xbox 720. The diagram in no way hints at the outer design of the console, but does point out where various pieces will be located and how they will interact with each other.

Included in the machine is said to be an 8 core CPU that runs at 1.6 gigahertz, a custom 800 megahertz GPU, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 32 MB of fast embedded SRAM, a 50 GB 6x Blu-Ray Disc Drive, and support for both 802.11 a/b/n/g Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet. Sounds like a pretty powerful machine.

It's important to mention that VG Leaks does not name a source (or even suggest where they got this information) for this Xbox 720/Durango design so take the associated specs with a massive grain of salt. An entirely plausible scenario could be that the site culled a collection of rumors and put forth their best assumption of what Durango might look like on the inside. But even then nothing is confirmed.

Xbox 720 Hardware Layout

Some elements, like the Blu-Ray player, Kinect 2.0 input, and 8GB of RAM have been suggested by previous rumors, but other elements don't align with the leaked dev kit that was making the rounds a few months ago.

Either way, if even half of the proposed specs make it into the machine gamers are poised to see a major bump in processing power for the Xbox 720. As well they can look forward to a device that more closely mirrors some of the higher end PCs available.

Once again, though, this just a rumored layout and is by no means official. We expect that as early as E3 2013 Microsoft will officially unveil their machine, although there is no guarantee that announcement will include system specs.

What do you think of these proposed Xbox 720 specs? Anything that seem inferior to you?
