WWE 2K14 WrestleMania List Header

The "Showcase of the Immortals" is filled out at last. Following weeks of feverish fan-led speculation, WWE 2K14 developer Yukes! Interactive has unveiled the identities of all 46 of the game's "WrestleMania Mode" matches. First announced back in August of this year, "30 Years of WrestleMania," links three decades of in-ring hijinks directly to your joypad, replacing last year's "Attitude Era" retrospective with a Hall of Famer-level offering.

Slated to make its debut on October 29th 2013, grapple-fans everywhere can now look forward to five distinct eras of entertainment (sorry, "territory age" enthusiasts), including those of bumbling big men, hot-shot small fries, loudmouthed brawlers, flashy technicians and more.

Check out WWE 2K14's full roster then have a look at the legendary matchups below:

Despite the breadth of match-ups on offer, some fans may be disappointed by the game's more obvious omissions. While the likes of Owen Hart, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Bubba Ray Dudley and Jeff Hardy were unlikely to make the cut — for a variety of different reasons — the lack of any one WM "Money in the Bank" ladder match remains unfortunate (each one features at least one ex-WWE talent).

With WWE's main "competitor" TNA wrestling steadfastly refusing to get out of first gear, the grappling giant has little to fear from advertising its now-former employees. If the company can mend ties with The Ultimate Warrior and cut a deal with Hulk Hogan - an icon already at work for the opposition - why not sign up the likenesses of a few more vintage mainstays? After all, no list of must-see WrestleMania matches could be complete without the classic Hardyz/Dudleyz/Edge and Christian clashes from WM 16 & 17, the Lesnar/Angle "Stupid Star Press" exhibition at WM 19 or Eddie/Kurt from WrestleMania 20.

Perhaps even more surprising are the missing bouts owned and operated by the WWE, including The Undertaker's first outings against Shawn Michaels and Triple H. Oddly, while neither of these gold-standard grapple fests make the cut, both of The Rock's recent turns with John Cena (7 out of 10 encounters, at best) make an appearance. Additional omissions include:

  • The Ultimate Warrior vs. 'Macho Man' Randy Savage (WM 7)
  • Shawn Michaels vs. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin (WM 14)
  • Triple H vs. The Undertaker (WM 17)
  • The Undertaker vs. Ric Flair (WM 18)
  • John Cena vs. Triple H (WM 22)
  • Edge vs. The Undertaker (WM 24)

With new publisher 2K Games touting the mode as a 30-year retrospective, gamers are likely to encounter even more matches following 2014's unfortunately titled WrestleMania XXX, (probably as paid DLC). If the event fails to live up to expectations, expect Yukes! to dip into its treasure trove of unused classics to supplement whatever the 30th event ends up offering.
