The collapse of THQ saw many prestigious properties sold off to other developers; effectively leaving many fans scared for the future of their beloved franchises. The acquisition of the WWE license by 2K Games, however, was an exciting one because it signalled that serious change may be on the horizon for the annual video game franchise. Fans of the WWE have been long awaiting a glimpse at the previously announced WWE 2K14, and 2K has obliged those desires — releasing the game's debut trailer.

As was previously announced, The Rock is front and centre on WWE 2K14's cover, and it's evident by the trailer that the Great One — along with several other well-known past and present Superstars — will each play a prominent role in the game's single-player mode. Legends such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Randy 'Macho Man' Savage, and Shawn Michaels will all be featured in the new game, as will current Superstars like John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, and Ryback.

The tagline for this year's iteration of the WWE franchise is "Become Immortal," which is an indication that the story mode will revolve around taking the necessary steps throughout a career to reach the ranks of an accomplished Superstar such as The Rock. This is of course just speculation, but its reminiscent of themes that have been present in past WWE titles.

There's still plenty of content left to be unveiled for WWE 2K14, and all of it will be arriving in a timely manner. The game's final roster is also still unknown, so that revelation should prove fruitful for die hard wrestling aficionados.

WWE 2K14 will body slam onto the Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 29th.
