A new trailer for World of Warcraft‘s Mists of Pandaria expansion has been released, and it’s the one fans have been eagerly anticipating. As with any Blizzard release it isn’t truly real until the unveiling of the opening cinematic of the game, or in this case, cinematic that sets the scene for a new world and race of characters. That’s what we have for you today, Mists of Pandaria’s cinematic trailer.
The purpose of the trailer is to introduce players to the Pandaren, the Panda-like race of martial arts masters who reside in Pandaria, the newest starting zone for World of Warcraft. It begins, however, with a few of WoW‘s more familiar races, as they encounter Pandaria much like MMO players will when they fire up the expansion.
Despite a cute and kid-friendly design in game, the Pandaren featured in the trailer battles with a balletic grace and conservation of movement that is breathtaking to witness. Kung Fu Panda this is not, or at least not in this cinematic trailer.
Unfortunately, a lot of what is teased in the trailer isn’t entirely indicative of the finished product, a quandary faced when releasing any cinematic trailer. Yes, the Pandaren, especially the new monk class, rely in the use of their firsts more so than weapons, but this is still an MMO.
There actually isn’t all that great of a look at Pandaria — the brightly colored, lush landscape with a very Asian-inspired design. Most of the “fighting” that takes place in the trailer is focused on the ruins in Pandaria, meant to make the full reveal of the starting world more poignant.

Still, this is a new World of Warcraft expansion, which does a lot more than introduce a new race and class into the game. It brings with it a new level cap, new quests, and tons more reasons for players who left after mining Cataclysm of all of its entertainment to return. There’s even a spiffy Limited Edition of the expansion that includes several worthwhile goodies.
What do you think of the new cinematic trailer for World of Warcraft‘s Mists of Pandaria expansion? Will this expansion bring WoW fans back into the fold yet again?

First, ARGH! I quit WoW, i rfuse to go back and NOW they give me the panda’s i was waiting for… GAH!
Second, Best opening cinematic yet.
Third, This could easialy be the debut trailer for Kung Fu Panda III is Jack Black was voiced in it.
And Finally… GAH! Why couldn’t have gotten this instead of Cataclysm! I’d still be playing if we got this first. ;_;
A cinematic won’t stop me thinking the expansion is utterly crap. Don’t know why they bother. If I see cinematic trailer for an MMO, it does not make me want to buy it, because the game isn’t like that. Looks like the developers are running out of ideas, and I am glad I do not play WoW.
Hahahaha.

You are gone
but not
forgotten
This cinematic is embarrassing. I’m fairly confident the x-pac will be good, but wow. That was awful.
This really underscores the fundamental problem with WoW. The game itself is nowhere near as graphically beautiful or innovative as it’s so outdated and clunky. Sure the cinematic was great but the game in no way can live up to it.
Most games don’t “live up” to the quality of their cinematics. Besides who needs good graphics to have fun with a game. I still play games that are 10-20 years and not for the graphics.
Holy lameness Batman. Anyone who thinks thats good rides the short yellow bus to school.
Was I watching Kung Fu Panda or WOW trailer ?
I kept expecting to hear Jack Black’s voice – I’m sorry but I think WoW is grasping at whatever they can now – they had a very strong run, stronger (and longer) than EverQuest did (I know EQ / EQII are still around, but they have NOT been leading the MMORPG world for some time), but even Sylvester Stallone knew when it was time to stop making Rocky movies (at least he learned it 3 movies too late)…
lol so typical how people who dont want to pay any money for wow complain about it. 95 Procent of all wow players on the forum like it.
This is a message from all active 9 million players: we dont give a crap about what you non wow players think. If you think this is kungfu panda, you can keep that thought and go play hello kitty adventure world.
ps: the script of pandaria (2003) is older than kungfu panda (2007) so they stole it from blizzard.
Actually its not that I don’t want to pay for the game. I just don’t like the game. I beta tested wow, played actively in vanilla and quit returned at WOTLK til shortly after Cataclysm.
The game just isn’t fun.
People like you feel the same you’re just in denial. You play because you fear missing out on something not that you actually want to play.
If I’m wrong then don’t log in for a day. You won’t.
People that whine and say the expansion is utterly crap haven’t even tried the beta out yet, they just whine cuz they jelly that WoW is still the best played mmo on the market with more then 10 mil. While other mmo’s are still strugling to keep atleast 1 mil. subscribers.
