World of Warcraft fans recently discovered a new version of an old Dwarf armor set that could hint at something big on the horizon. This new World of Warcraft armor could be involved with the Trading Post, a new Heritage Armor questline, or something even larger.
The Public Test Realm for World of Warcraft is currently running builds of Patch 10.1, Embers of Neltharion. The World of Warcraft PTR allows players to explore some of the campaign, zone, and features coming in the new patch–and lets them take a look at assets and content hidden away in the game files.
Among these assets, some World of Warcraft players discovered an updated version of the classic Ironforge Guard armor, axe, and shield. Dwarf players will immediately recognize this ensemble as the gear worn by the town guards of their racial capital of Ironforge in Dun Morogh. However, the new armor set seems to come in two different colorations with accompanying icons–something unusual for NPC-only equipment–as well as an HD version of the Ironforge Tabard from Wrath of the Lich King, which is not worn by guard NPCs at all.
This new armor in World of Warcraft could mean any number of things. One of the more likely scenarios is that one or both of these Ironforge Guard ensembles and tabard may be added to the Trading Post later on. This new cosmetic-collecting feature enables WoW to offer unique items based on NPC gear. It already has items themed after Night Elf Wardens and Orc Blademasters, and gear inspired by characters like the Medivh may also be added to the Trading Post in WoW's future.
Alternatively, World of Warcraft could be planning a Dwarf Heritage Armor questline. Orcs and Humans are getting similar quests in Dragonflight Patch 10.0.7, so it is reasonable to imagine Dwarves could get one as well. This armor could be a reward from such a quest or could be worn by Dwarf NPCs during it. Alternatively, a group of Ironforge Guards could appear in another quest in the future of Dragonflight.
Though unlikely, this Ironforge Guard armor could be a hint that a World of Warcraft world revamp is coming. Cataclysm is over 10 years old now, so a second world revamp in World of Warcraft is long overdue, and would be extremely popular. While there is currently no concrete evidence that such a major overhaul is coming to World of Warcraft, this new armor would fit in a new version of Azeroth well.
