There hasn't been much news pertaining to Wolfenstein: The New Order after the game was delayed back in August, but now the developer behind the forthcoming Nazi-filled shooter has taken the liberty of confirming an official release date. Bethesda announced the official launch date for Wolfenstein, but it also made a surprise announcement that may tickle the fancy of Doom fans across the globe.

First and foremost, North American gamers can now mark May 20, 2014 on their calendar because that's when MachineGamesWolfenstein: The New Order will be hitting Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC. Meanwhile, Europeans can look forward to gunning down Nazis and their highly advanced robot minions on May 23, 2014. All of this is engaging news for those that have been awaiting more details on the next installment of id Software's original and iconic franchise, but Bethesda took it up a notch by confirming a new incentive.

According to the publisher, anyone that pre-orders Wolfenstein: The New Order will score a beta code for the next Doom game — previously titled Doom 4. The fate of the next installment of the demon-centric first-person shooter is now a lot more secure than it was previously believed to be. That said, Bethesda has clarified on Wolfenstein's official website that the Doom beta will not be available beginning May 20, but will instead be offered at a later point in time — requiring The New Order to gain access through once the beta is made available.

Bethesda also took the liberty of releasing a new trailer titled 'Boom Boom' which showcases additional gameplay footage of MachineGames' upcoming title. Demonstrating even more narrative and focussing on the main character B.J. Blazkowicz, the new montage for Wolfenstein: The New Order doesn't fail to impress. Since the game will not feature multiplayer, it's good that the single player offerings look so promising, but whether or not that'll hold true to the final product remains to be seen.
