Last week PAX East 2014 attendees were treated to a substantial chunk of Wolfenstein: The New Order gameplay, about 30 minutes' worth in total. The demo featured our hero, B.J. Blazkowicz, doing what he does best: killing futuristic Nazis.

However, for those gamers who were unable to attend PAX East, developer MachineGames has taken to regularly streaming big chunks of gameplay for their upcoming release. The first gameplay stream took place just a few days ago, and has been archived above for your viewing pleasure. The demo focuses on the game's early moments - the tutorial portion, if you will.

Although two MachineGames devs are on hand running the Wolfenstein: The New Order demo, the footage is provided with minimal commentary. That way gamers can get the authentic Wolfenstein: The New Order, which apparently features very little music.

As far as the footage is concerned, it registers somewhere in the middle with regards to the FPS genre. There are gameplay elements that will presumably help The New Order stand out from the pack, but they are mixed in with standard fare. It's important to note, though, that this is an early tutorial level, and therefore is not necessarily indicative of the diversity available in the game.

Wolfenstein New Order Gameplay Stream

After a somewhat confusing demo at E3 2013, our expectations for Wolfenstein: The New Order have been decidedly tempered. Sure, the idea of revisiting the franchise with modern gameplay mechanics and future tech has us intrigued, but thus far the game has failed to leave a strong impression. And, for that matter, the decision to nix a multiplayer variant has rubbed some die-hard fans the wrong way.

That being said, this footage does prove that Wolfenstein: The New Order will be a competent FPS experience with a handful of unique twists. Also, we can't be sure, but it looks like dog food will return as a health item — a throwback to the original Wolfenstein games.

Also of note, it looks like MachineGames wants to make these Wolfenstein streams a regular ordeal, and have already scheduled another stream for April 24th at 2pm EST. So pop by their Twitch channel for more Wolfenstein: The New Order footage.
