Witcher 3 Confirmed for PS4 PlayStation 4

At the recent press conference for its next console, Sony hyped that the PlayStation 4 will have major third-party publisher support like its predecessor, the PlayStation 3. But unlike the PS3, the PS4 is abandoning the Cell processor and adopting a PC-like architecture, making the device an even more attractive platform for outside development.  As evidence of this, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that Sony fans will have their first opportunity to explore the world of Temeria with Geralt of Rivia when The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt releases in 2014.

Apparently, the PS4 version won't be receiving second-hand treatment via a shoddy port. CD Projekt RED plans on releasing The Witcher 3 at the same time as other "high-end" platforms and the development team has had early access to the PS4 hardware, according to Head of CD Projekt RED, Adam Badowski:

We were thrilled when asked, several months ago, to be one of the developers who were granted early access to the PlayStation 4. It was an exciting moment to be invited to be in the company of other legendary developers like Bethesda, EA, LucasArts, Ubisoft or Activision as one of the teams working on titles shipping early in the PlayStation 4's lifecycle. Of course, we couldn't reveal any specifics about this to our fans, even though many journalists and forum members asked about when and how The Witcher might show up on Sony's console. After yesterday's PlayStation Meeting we can finally promise: The Witcher 3 is coming to the PlayStation 4. The new hardware gives us the opportunity to create something great. We are able to work with the new console from its birth and this allows our in-house REDengine 3 to push the graphical limits of what the PlayStation hardware can display. The console is fresh and has some innovative solutions that we're looking forward to using in our game.

While The Witcher 3 is a sequel, it is also a standalone title. Those unfamiliar with the series will be introduced to the ongoing story via an opening cinematic sequence, likely similar to that used in The Witcher 2, which explained the events of the initial PC-only installment. RPG fans should take notice of this one as CD Projekt RED has promised open-world gameplay that aims to rival that of Skyrim and the Dragon Age series. In an informative interview conducted by GameInformer, Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and Lead Quest Designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz talk about what they learned from sandbox games like Skyrim and how they want to apply this knowledge to The Witcher 3:
