Dedicated fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have likely logged hundreds of hours into the massive game already, especially considering developer CD Projekt Red has been consistently adding free content to the game. This has included new quests, new items, and even new game plus mode, all making the already huge game that much bigger.

Even though the 16 free weeks of DLC for The Witcher 3 are up, CD Projekt Red is making sure that the Witcher 3 experience keeps on expanding. Marcin Momot, community lead and website coordinator at CD Projekt Red, has announced that mod tools are now available for the PC version of The Witcher 3, which could greatly increase the life of the game for many gamers out there.

These mod tools should make the modding process much easier for those interested in creating custom content for The Witcher 3. The mod tools should also increase the rate at which quality mods are made available for the game, and as we've seen in the past, a game with a healthy set of mods is a game that has near infinite replay value.

While the PC gaming community can start working with these mod tools starting today, many are probably wondering if and when they'll arrive for console versions. Bethesda made big waves at E3 when it was announced that Fallout 4 will support mods on consoles. This, of course, blows the doors wide open for other developers to follow suit and allow mods for the console versions of their games as well.

When asked whether or not The Witcher 3 mods could make their way to consoles at some point, Momot had this to say:

"It’s really important for us not to partition The Witcher community and allow access to mods to console gamers, too. We’re considering various approaches to solve this and started initial talks with first-parties about this. We can’t make any hard promises yet, but you can be sure that we’re looking into it."

So while console mod support for The Witcher 3 has yet to be officially confirmed, it's good to know that CD Projekt Red is working on making it a reality. Maybe they can even steal some of Bethesda's thunder by making The Witcher 3 the first game with mod support on consoles, because after all, the mod tools for Fallout 4 won't be made until the game is finished. This gives CD Projekt Red plenty of time to iron out a deal to see Witcher 3 mods on consoles before Fallout 4 even launches.

Are you excited for The Witcher 3 mods? If you've stopped playing, will mods convince you to return to the game? Let us know!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Currently, mod tools are only available for the PC version of the game.
